1960's Rudder Pin HELP

I have just come across a 1960's sunfish in great condition...however it is missing the pin that attches the rudder to the hardware. It looks like it was once attched to a small chain on the boat. Does anyone have one they would be willing to sell or at least point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
HH

I have an early 60's fish that I'm parting out. I can't look and see if the pin is still there or not until this weekend at the earliest. I'll look and see what parts I still have. :)

HH,

Try AMF Boat Parts (Parts for older rudder assemblies) (http://www.geocities.com/amfboats/) or possibly Corpus Christi Sailing Center (http://www.constant.com/sailing/index.html and go to the new site, then the small boats sales, parts & service section. Or you can make one out of 1/4" brass rod (originals were brass) and a short length of sheet brass. Or use a stainless steel bolt. Try to get a bolt that is unthreaded were it passes thru the rudder parts. Use a nylon lock nut, it may take a moment longer to install/remove the rudder, but it will get you sailing. Get a couple of spare nuts and bolts (in case you drop/lose one). Good luck.

go to google and do a search for sunfish parts as i have seen this item available and only cost a few bucks. goo luck

You can also make one out of aluminum rod stock. Drill a small hole at each end and use retaining rings to keep it in place. Much easier than nuts and bolts because you can easily take off one ring to remove it.

The best advice may be to make your own. I just saw an "original" pin (part #65002) listed for $33 on a Sunfish Parts Website. OUCH!!!! You can make a lot of pins for that.

I got several stainless ones last year from McMaster Carr catalog. They have the spring ball in one end and a ring to attach to the chain on the other. Works great and is much less than $33. If you don't want to buy one there I would be glad to sell you one of mine for a reasonable price. Let me know.

I need similar help. The problem with my boat is the 1940's nut on the end of the tiller. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?
