    Wheels falling off dollies

I've learned to remove the wheels and pins and store them in my trunk during long drives. The vibration causes them fall out. The same happens sometimes to the wing nuts holding the cross section on the dolly.

    Run away dolly wheels

I take off the wheels when I trailer my dolly. I have had the pins shake out from road vibration. Also make sure the wing nuts that hold on the cross piece of the dolly are taped on to something. I have lost those bolds from road vibration as well.

    New Sunfish Storage/Launch Ramp

Alan - Have you thought of putting some carpet or other material on top of the plywood? I would think the wood could get slippery after being outside for a while.

Removing the end cap from the mast

The mast end cap is not designed to be water tight. Generally you will get water in the mast from regular sailing up to deck level which is the water level in your mast step. (Any more will drain while the boat is upright.) With a small hole in the cap you can drain out the water after your...

Removing the end cap from the mast

No need to remove the end cap. Just drill a hole in the middle of the cap. This will allow water to drain whenever you finish sailing.

Halyard cleat has just a little wiggle…

Consider moving the cleat up or down a few inches on the mast and fill the old screw holes with epoxy. I did it and it worked fine. (By the way, use brand new screws.)

    Bottom mast cap

I recommend drilling a hole in the middle of the bottom cap of the mast to allow water to run out after sailing. While silicone and other things may seal the bottom for a period of time eventually it will leak and you need some way to get rid of the water.

    Brand New 2021 Sunfish. Questions

Consider a dolly to help launch and move it around. You don't want to be dragging the boat across rocks and gravel getting it in and out of the water.

Hoisting Sail is a Two Person Job?

Are you trying to hoist the sail when the bow is pointed away from the wind? Make sure you point the bow of the boat into the wind and that will make it a lot easier. Also, consider wearing sailing gloves (rubber garden gloves work well too) when you hoist the sail. Most women and kids I have...

How will the sunfish handle on Lake Michigan?

Like everyone above has written, Lake Michigan is a challenging place to sail but I've sailed Sunfish most of my life there. You just need to take the proper precautions to be safe. By the way, the Wingnuts disaster was the result of a boat with low stability being caught in a bad storm with...
