Would boardshorts protect them well enough?

I hope I posted this in the right place... I have never used hiking pants in my life and am considering purchasing a pair. My primary concern is warmth. I usually sail in the summertime off the coast of North Carolina and I know that hiking pants can be very uncomfortable in warm conditions...

I regret posting this thread now....it has just turned into a giant mess.

I like white. It doesn't stand out as much.

It's weak that you don't even consider the possibility I don't own a Laser right now.

i love to hit waves in 40+ knots of wind and go flying into the air.....

i replace my life jacket ALL THE TIME, it usually begins to stink (i am not talking just a little unpleasant odor but a filthy stinking life jacket that is almost no fun to sail in) or the life jacket gets torn. however i always end up getting a extrasport.

will you get a chance to see the boat in person before you buy it?
