    Max wind for light sailor

I weight about the same and sail a full rig. I would bump your max up to 12-15 knots, I enjoy the extra challenge and speed. At 15+ knots it will probably stop being fun sailing and more physical/technical, even if you are deliberately depowering the sail. You can always stay close to the...

Fighting the Rudder, Boat Wants to Wind Vane

Thanks for the advice, I will take a look at those articles, and try out those tips next time I'm sailing!

Fighting the Rudder, Boat Wants to Wind Vane

I haven't sailed in a few years, and recently got back into Laser sailing. I am now sailing on a lake, versus a bay. It's a lot choppier than what I have experienced in the past, but I am really enjoying it! However, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong while sailing upwind in 12-18mph...

    Laser boom reinforcement

I think this is because those boats had the old vang system, I have always heard the boom sleeve was added to accomodate the extra force applied to the boom by the new vang.

Olympic dingy selection 1st announcement from WS is in!

I'm not surprised it comes down the RS Aero and the Laser. The Laser was ranked highest for athletic suitability: The Laser also ranked highest for Performance, but it seems they dinged the Laser on part availability, manufacture variation, hull weight, and the outdated sail design.

    Laser drainage process

I would also install an autobailer.

    Laser drainage process

The drain on the stern (back of the boat by the rudder) is plugged while sailing. Unless you have a leak, the inside of the hull should stay pretty dry. The plug inside the cockpit is part of the autobailer, which is the black plastic piece on the bottom of the hull . When you need to drain...

    GoPro Camera Mounts

Nothing that fancy, but I bought a bike seat mount mount for $5 and clamp it on the bow fairlead.

    Rigging advice please

I do not like the Rooster mast retainer shown in that video, it allows the mast to move too far out of the tube when you capsize, which could cause major damage. I have a 3mm Excel Vectran line that I run through the desk plate then cross behind the mast in an X-shape, then over the vang tang...

    Securing boat from theft

I don't think you will have to worry much at a concert, it's hardly a venue where a thief would come prepared to steal a boat. I would make sure you lock the trailer to the hitch, and make sure the hitch is locked to the car. If you want to be extra safe, lock the boat to the trailer through...

Check My Rigging & Some Questions

Thanks again for the reply. I'll take a look at the mast retainer and the outhaul hook. The vang line had more problems than just being 5mm, even after washing it, it was really stiff, so I replaced it was 4mm Marlow Excel.

Check My Rigging & Some Questions

Thanks for the reply, it is greatly appreciated! I will unwrap/cut off that wrap on the upper mast. Hopefully it isn't masking an issue, it was the only red flag I spotted when I bought the boat. I will also look into changing the way the rudder is rigged. Replacing the outhaul line was...

Check My Rigging & Some Questions

Hi Everyone, About 8 years ago I moved away from the ocean and sold my '99 Laser. I recently discovered a large Laser fleet at a local lake, so I started browsing for a good deal on a Laser. As luck would have it, I spotted my old '99 Laser for sale, still in excellent shape plus it had a...

    Laser or Nacra - Help!

Hi Everyone, I have had my Laser for the last three years and love it. I recently moved away from the coast, and left my Laser in a storage unit. I am now presented with a tough decision. Do I sell it or bring it with me? The laser fleet in my new area (inland state) is smaller and only...
