    Class legal sails vs. after-market

You can get 2.5 after-market sails for the price of one class sail, so unless you need to use a class sail, why would you buy one? There's enough evidence in this forum to say the after-market sails last longer and sail just as well.

Class Politics Practice sails for local racing

I would suggest that you allow only one make of the training sail to be used during club racing. I think this helps keep things level and prevents discussions about which make of training sail is better.

    Rooster outhaul system

I have a 4:1 version of the harken rooster booster. I am happy with it. It came with everything I needed to fit it to the boom, including gooseneck block. All the ropes came ready spliced and at the right length. Sometimes the outhaul does need a hard tug. But looking at it I'd go for the...

    XD System Installation

I bought one of the Rooster kits. It was very easy to fit. The deck fittings are simply a case of unscrewing the old ones and screwing on the new ones, using some sealant. I just used a screw driver. Other than that a few knots are required to fit the outhaul and the block for it at the...

    Outhauls

"the outhaul control line shall be tied to either end of the boom, the outhaul fairlead, the sail, or a quick release system, AND shall pass at least once through the boom outhaul fairlead." If I understand correctly, you must tie the outhaul control line to one of the above locations, or use...

    Rooster Laser Sail Clew Strap

I use the Rooster Strap and it works really well. Certainly better than a tie down rope. I find it slides easily up and down the boom, and does not show any tendancy to want to come undone. Pulling the sail down hard onto the boom is very easy, thanks to not having to tie a knot, which always...

    Do you use wind indicator?

I use a burgee and a little hawk. The hawk is good for a rough guide upwind and reaching. Running I find it gets covered, hence the spinning especially in light winds. The mast head burgee is great, on a broad reach or a run, for picking up wind shifts. I sail on a shifty inland lake...
