    Radial or 4,7

The european lasers are probably worth the extra money, vanguard isn't known for quality. But your best bet would be to look for a boat thats been charters a few times. You can get them for significantly (500-1000) less than a new one.

worse top 2 thing you have done or forgot ?

Re: worsed top 2 thing you have done or forgot ? When I was sailing at radial North Americans about 5 years ago I forgot to put my daggerboard in when launching my boat. As you can imagine I noticed it pretty quickly but obviously I had a serious problem; how to get upwind without a foil. Of...

    minor damage, scratches

Just kidding, I got those while attempting to beach my boat on a floating ramp. I do it all the time and the ramps very padded so it never damages the boat if you put enough weight on the stern. This time I didn't put enough weight on the stern.

    minor damage, scratches

Got some minor boat work to do before I start racing again. How should I fix this blemish on my bow? Looks like I need to do some gelcoating, any recommendations? Also, I have some minor scratches along the boat that I can and have been fixing with filling putty. Any recommendations for a...

    Radial or 4,7

72kg, that would be on the heavy side even for a radial. I weigh about the same and I recently made the transition from radial to standard. Seems to me like the question you should be asking isn't 4.7 or radial but radial or standard. Optimal weight for a radial is 150 pounds (68kg). Not...

    Masts, Spars, Carbon, and prices

I don't see how carbon fiber masts could ever become class legal. The fact that they bend under a lot of pressure can be a real advantage if say you're sailing in really heavy wind. Say a huge gust comes along and all the boats with regular alluminum masts start to capsize. The guy with the...

Accelerating at the start - playing devil's advocate

I've heard from several top college sailing coaches including Ken Legler and Jeff Bresnahan that this rule is definitely illegal but you will not get protested for it in college sailing. In regular sailing I believe the rule is also illegal and I've heard cases of people getting protested for...

Anyone Use a Mainsheet Ratchet Block with Cleat?

Whatever you do don't get a cleat for the mainsheet. It will only get in the way on those really heavy days when you need to let it out. A good ratchet should do the trick and like Chainsaw said, use those dumbells.

2 Best Tips to sail fast

    1. Anyone can win a regatta. It takes a true sailor to win the regatta AND the party (ok so that one doesn't have to do with sailing fast, but having fun is just as important). 2. Find that downwind groove. Soooo important, harder than the upwind groove with a HUGE payoff if you can sustain...
