An admittedly biased opinion, but here is a link to gear for those kind of temperatures. I wear this setup in temperatures as low as air temp in the 30s comfortably, but I am from Canada :D

Similar here. Just carried a Tasar on top on my Laser with the spars lashed to the dolly, Seattle to Vancouver. Did I mention that the tow vehicle was a Mazda MX-5 (Miata) :D

The original Radial rigs had the cup and halyard system. It was changed to the same method as the standard rig in the mid-nineties. It was also at this time that the colour sail combination was dropped in favour of white sails only.
Best way I can think of is to take a wire coat hanger and put a 90 degree bend at the end, but make the end small enough that it will still fit through the gooseneck fitting. You can then try to 'feel' along the inside of the spar to see if you can detect the sleeve.
It's not quite as bad as that. The sleeve is only a couple of feet long so you only need to remove the gooseneck fitting and the vang strap. The gooseneck fitting usually gets damaged in the process which is why it's included in the sleeve kit.
