    Used laser price?

Thanks, I'm glad I asked becuase I was thinking 1500 and apparently I can get more than that. Does it matter that there are some spyder cracks in one section of the bottom? They don't leak and I wet sanded the bottom as per DrLaser's article so its all nice smooth but I'm thinking that would...

    Used laser price?

Hey, I've been racing lasers for 3 years and I'm considering selling mine, I'm not sure if I'll put the money into a new laser, or just save it (i'm about to enter college so you know how the money issues are). What do you guys think a ball park number is for my setup? I bought it pretty...

    Home Made Laser Dolly

Actually i saw a wooden dolly the other day, but not only was the frame wooden but the wheels were wooden too! I think PVC would be a good bet and fill it with that expanding foam so it floats so long as you don't have to go too far and if it broke, its cheap to replace.

Is the Laser a good recreational boat?

Depending on where you launch from the V15 is easier to deal with than a Laser. Not that its difficult to rig a laser but if you have a dock space pulling off the deck cover and having everything rigged is appealling - thats how most of the V15 guys at Larchmont do it. Some are on dollys and...

    Another cry for help!

yea becuase you can just put it in the hole and have it centered as you move up in size rather than trying to get a bigger bit centered, the bits were much more useful than I ever expected them to be. If you do even a minimal amount of metal work they're worth $15

    Radial versus Standard: How Different?

the shape of the window is the give away as well, on the standard the front of the window is smaller and the back is bigger. on a radial the back of the window is smaller and hte front bigger. it matches the seems of the sail. I'd skip the 4.7 rig. I kept my radial down in 20+ windws resonably...

    Home Made Laser Dolly

I went to a railing place and got 1 1/4 inch square aluminum tubing (got a 40 foot section for some rediouclously low price) and then went home, cut it to basically match a seitech one with a few modifications. Went back, had the guy weld it together and add some gusset plates (i also cut those...

Is the Laser a good recreational boat?

forget the swimming part, i sail LIS too and you will never have too much wind. Go with a laser there are doxens of them around here, i picked up 3 in a matter of 1 month, 2 for free and one for $300. I ended up giving away two hulls to friends and keeping the best. It is easy to find the hulls...

    Bunk trailer for a Laser

i'd go with upside down becuase it is MUCH better for the hull. I've never done it but I'm thinking you can just ramp launch the laser upside down. I know you can flip it no rig/centerboard in the water easy (all of the junior sailors do it here becuase we store our boats on the dock deck down...

    Another cry for help!

yea i drilled out the bottom one (actually used a stepped reaming bit if you have one, much better than a straight bit) and its not that much of a change.

    Gel-coat or Awlgrip

what kind of mask are you using? the paper dusk masks aren't that effective - and do nothing when you start painting. do you have one of the dual canister types - i have ashtma as well but it usually doesn't bother me so long as i have a good mask on?

    hole in one

i wouldn't spend $915 to repair a laser of that vintage, and I have a laser of that vintage. FOr that money you can find a new hull alone and keep your rigging, and have no resale problems. Failing that, buy a hole saw and put in the inspection port yourself, fixing it shouldn't be too bad...

    Gel-coat or Awlgrip

For hulls I would use Interlux Perfection - its basically the same as AwlGrip (same manufactorer) but its brush/rollable. It comes out just as well - I'll probably use it later this year for mine. For blades I'd go with an epoxy based paint becuase they have more to deal with in the centerboard...

    Insurance

if you have a larger boat there is usually a dinghy clause, the insurance for my 40 footer covers the laser, the limit is about $5000 but I think the same deducitable applies for both, so the deductible is a thousand, i haven't checked it in a while. Honestly my laser isn't worth 2 grand so the...

Lightweight Laser Sailor Tips and Techniques?

Well I have no idea how this would do in a race, but when I go out (for the record I'm about 135 and I use a radial rig) and I get REALLY overpowered (like a close hauled corse would flip me to leeward no matter how depowered or how hiked out I was, I end up blowing out the mainsheet a lot. Try...

You know you're a Laser sailer when...

A bad driver cuts you off and you say starboard under your breath ...... You start to talk to people about how your knee hurts from your bad hiking style, and they ask what mountains you went to .... You rip the pages out of your organizer to "save weight" ... Your have tan lines from sailing...

    Re-Gellcoating

Well, I had a Dyer and a Whaler sprayed at a shop with Awlgrip, it came out great (I have no idea how much that would cost, the paint was free and the spraying was free, I did all the prep work), but the results where great. Just make sure its all sanded well, pre-paint prep is 90% of the battle.

    Autobailer Assembly

Kragen, good point, I put my boat (that has never leaked before) into the water, even with a little sealant, it still leaked like crazy!!! I don't understand, the hole i drill was snug around everything, i used silicone, and it dried for a few days. I'm gonna take it all apart and do it again...

    Holt vs. Harken vangs

I haven't seen many holt vangs, (only 2) but I think they are the same. The overwhelming majority in my area is the Harken one, though nobody really can explain why, I think its just brand recognition. Kevin
