    Laser Simulator available at Tacticat

Any chance for better control keys? It looks like the keys use the system timed key repeat (I'm on mac os x), so you hit turn and hold it, and it turns once, waits, then turns a bunch, making it really hard to steer accurately and smoothly around marks. Also, Maybe having the chat/message...

    sailing in rain

like I said, the pics don't do the wind justice. I felt totally defeated because of my insane capsize and rolls where as the competitive lasers were doing fine in that wind. I'll just blame my lack of vang controls (which I plan to fix asap)... Is Ben on this forum? (if you are, you'll know who...

    sailing in rain

oh i forgot... anybody have tips for heavyweather straight downwind? i tried sheeting in while going downwind, but it made me extremely unbalanced, and sheeted out gave me too much power

    sailing in rain

so I went sailing, for maybe 30 minutes. there were 4 or 5 other lasers out in radials racing inside the harbor because the bay was too strong to go into. When the wind started picking up, i realized i had to get back, but i couldn't go straight downwind , and I kept letting the sail out, but I...

    sailing in rain

this morning it looks great. light colored overcast, good visibility (i looked at the harbor webcam, can see easily over a mile to the other lighthouse), the waves aren't breaking in the harbor mouth, some kayakers are going out it looks like... now to convince my mom to let me go. look at...

    sailing in rain

we almost never get thunder here, and rarely see it, usually only hear it once a year. it wont' be an issue i guess. as i've said, for the last few years i've only sailed during the summer so better to ask than find out it's dangerous and miserable with the rain. looking forwards to surfing the...

    sailing in rain

well, yes, but i mean, it shouldn't be a problem in the rain and if it's overcast as long as you can't hear thunder or see any lightening... right?

    sailing in rain

i dont' think the temperature is an issue. my friend just mentioned lightening... i know nothing about this, is it an issue in a storm? if there's no thunder of anything obvious, i'd imagine it's not an issue

    sailing in rain

I've never sailed during the winter , therefore I have a basic question: how does it work sailing in the rain? does it make sailing miserable? There's a storm and good wind (weather.com says 10-25mph), vs the daily 5-10 like it's been for weeks, so i'm dying to go... is rain ok? Also there's...

Vote: To sail or not to sail

wow, i'm really lucky in california. The coldest it's getting at night now is 34 or so, but it gets around 70-80 in the day... Although the wind seems pretty low during winter, I'm just learning this because I usually don't sail during the school year

    "how" sailboats work

Each semester for math academy (in school) we have to write a research paper. For this semester, I chose to create my own topic which I chose to be "math in sailing". It's a pretty big subject, to how sailboats work even to navigation, so if it's hard to find info about math in how sailboats...

    seitech 2-boat trailer racks

so just tie the rope off at one side, do one loop around the hull, and then tie off at the other side, for the front and back? sounds like it works. Another question: We were considering making our own rack. Does anybody have the length dimension? Something like 8 or 9 feet?

    seitech 2-boat trailer racks

how would you do it if you had a roof rack? Just tie straight down with ratchet straps? what stops forwards/back movement?

    seitech 2-boat trailer racks

I was just thinking of the seitech 2 boat trailer racks... the ones where you put your boat (laser) deck-down, and I realized something. How do you keep your boat from sliding forwards or backwards and off, onto the road? I suppose a line from one side of the rack frame through the bow eye and...

    dolly materials/put-together

I ended up making the dolly out of wood. The frame is strong enough, but I'm using a piece of carpet as the sling. (about 5" wide carpet) Has anybody used carpet as a dolly sling before? I'm worried it might snap, it seems pretty stretchy. Maybe I should pad the wooden axle below the sling...

    What's your Laser called?

Mine is Hollyfeld (or Lazlo Hollyfeld for full) after the Lazlo Hollyfeld in the movie Real Genius. It's not officially titled or anything on the boat... It's just it's name.

Introducing myself. New to laser sailing.

I'm pretty sure the correct way to hold a Laser tiller extension is infront of you, what would look like on your knees as you said. That way you can sheet in easily using an hand and a few spare fingers from the other. As you said about steering, I figured out after a few times out on my laser...

    dolly materials/put-together

So we've acquired a laser 2, without trailer or dolly, so we're hoping to modify our current trailer with a 2 boat rack, and make a dolly for the laser 2. When I say we, I mean me. my dad's too overworked now, and he's ready to give up on the laser 2 (we dont' have rigging, and can't find used...

    Laser 2 rigging

First off, we just got a laser 2 hull for free. 1989, never sailed (or maybe once, not sure) because the person who bought it bought it for competition, but the hull had a defect (one majorly soft spot, which is easily fixed but apparently not for racing), so Vanguard just sent him a new hull...
