Can you take a picture of what it looks like since you cut? If the section is not too wide and you have good glass taper on the edges you could acetone and glass some support straps across the hole and let dry. After a light sanding and acetone you could put a layer on the hole and the straps...
Beldar is correct. Go to the club and talk to people. Sunfish sailors are very helpful on general questions and setups. One thing that helps is a wind indicator. When tacking up wind you need to have speed before tacking, and during the tack or you will get stuck in irons.
You can. You can also go around the board back to front and round the mast or the handle. Some go to the where the booms join at the front so the cord tension will help hold out the sail on a light air run. Others go around the back of the board and put the cord hooks on the edge of the boat...
Not my picture.
The carriage bolt tube was standard on all old style rudders. They keep the top bracket and bottom bracket inline, without it the system doesn't work well. They become lost over time.
The new boards don't vibrate, wood boards do. Good to see you getting the feel. You can tie the sail according to starboard passage until you get the hardware on. A looser upper outhaul give the sail some scallops for power.
The race sail is cut with more draft in the sail
The dimensions on the booms are the same but is fuller and has more power. The adjustable outhaul and cunningham allow better shaping to take advantage of the fuller sail.
Nicholson58 your setup is like the old-style with a bolt, nut and washers. You replaced the bolt with rope and the nylon washers with rubber. The universial works differently the base is screwed to the top of tiller the other end goes in the end of the tube extension. The universial allows for...
I would sail with a regular set up first. You need to get the feel of the boat and what makes it fast. Do you have a hiking strap?
Some top sailors are not adjusting the outhaul even downwind as they want max sail size. Cunningham on in heavier air and chop by feel. The main thing is keeping...
Not near my boat at the moment but this is similar from Cruisers Workday for Bonaire Sailors
They are using line and I use a shock cord and I have mine higher.
Kim Alix everyone has their hiking strap different. Mine is a Zhik hiking strap attached at the front bracket. It then has a shock cord going around the hiking strap about three inches from the front pulling the hiking strap up and going around my rachet and back to the strap and tied. The back...
