A question about the mast hole...

I currently have my sunfish outside. I should just cover it but was I wondering, when it rains obviously water goes into the hole where the mast goes. I know there is cork at the bottom of the mast hole and so water can evaporate. However, is it better to cover the hole? Or just leave it...

The eyestraps in the rear that hold the traveler are not secure...

In the rear of the sunfish there are two eyestraps one per side that secure the plastic covered wire that acts as a traveler to the boom. In any case, in each eyestrap one of the two screws is not entirely secure. For example, I can keep tightening the screw but it keeps screwing and never...

How to fasten the mast bottom cap with the two steel fasteners...

They are just two small little metal rods. Do I just insert the bottom cap into the mast, then drill a small hole for those two fasteners, hammer them in? Do I need to weld them on the outside? Otherwise they will just come out no? -Tristan

    Sunfish upper boom/spar...

It's been bent and I have bent it back into place several times. I took the sunfish out in high winds 22+ and the spar has bent right where i set the clove hitch. Anyhow, I can't find any sunfish retailers locally. It was going to cost $500 - $600 for shipping alone from some retailers. I...

    Sunfish as a fishing boat...

I have a 1979 Sunfish and love sailing on our city lake. I want to start fishing. I was thinking of tying my fishing pole to the front of the mast with a bungie while I'm sailing. Then I figure I need an anchor so maybe some big weight and where should I tied that onto? I could keep the fish...

    trailer tires...

I have a 1978 Sunfish that I have on a trailer. I get my tires from walmart, it has 5 nuts. But the tires don't last much at all. I have already had to replace it twice. Feels like each one is only good for 500 miles or less. The thread just comes off. Any suggestions for a good quality...

Would like a small sloop dinghy size...

I have sailed a Sunfish and a Laser as well as a Laser 2. The Laser was what I liked but it was too old. I'd like something that I can single hand yet has a jib and main. I like the feel of sailing with two sails. But I'm looking for something light and something that can put out in shallow...

    Aft Inspection port...

I have a 1979 Sunfish. I have an inspection port already in the usual spot just aft of the mast step. The traveler was recently replaced. I noticed that one of the screws on the port strap eye that holds down the traveler did not screw in very well. So I would like to put some hardwood...

    Questions on some sunfish repairs...

I have a 1978 Sunfish. My traveler ripped up so I bought a new one. However, it looks like the new design no longer has a loop in the center where the mainsheet bowline ties onto. It's just two loops the go in the port and starboard strap eyes. Traveler for the Sunfish® In any case I'll try...

A question about 4x4 with relation to boat ramps...

I had a 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 manual access cab. I love it but I needed more room. So I got a 2015 Sierra 1500 truck but it does not have 4x4. What concerns me is that if I have a boat and I back it into the water to the point where my rear wheels of my truck are in the water a bit, that...

    Question about holes in cockpit...

I had my hiking strap attached to the front and rear of inside the cockpit, but the screws would pop out of the front part so I eventually drilled the holes through a block of wood behind the inner lip of the front side of the cockpit and it works great. However, I still have the holes on the...

    Laser 2 questions...

I bought a used 1980 ish laser 2. I noticed that it doesn't have a rudder lock clip to keep the rudder from lifting up and out. I ordered the clip, would it be ok to drill some holes and install the clip, I do not see any signs of any previous holes.

Wanted your opinion on the differences between old and new sunfish...

I have a 1978 Sunfish that I use quite often. I love it! It's rugged and works quite well. I don't race. I just like going to different lakes and exploring. Of course, loads of fun sailing in 15+ mph winds. I am 34 and in decent shape. But there are times that I wouldn't mind a little...
