    How Fast?

I know personally I have gone about 12 knots in a radial, I know because I have a handheld GPS. I have gone faster, but not had the GPS onboard sadly. It seems to run out of batteries whenever it would be awesome to see.

    Media My Laser refurb (#2)

Good way to be OCS'd as the committee sees the only boat with a black deck over haha. Very original and gutsy.

    Sail used by top guys?

Re: Sail The Hyde sails have more resin so are stiffer. They are better in the heavy air as they hold their shape better. I have heard that some bring a brand new North and Hyde, Hyde for heavy air and North for light stuff. Your Hyde will remain in better condition for a longer period of time.

    Main sheet cleats

they are good for extremely light air gybes when you use the tiller extension to grab the stack and initiate a gybe. Also good for the sail in. However I took mine off because i hated sitting on them.

    Laser questions

if the boat gets beaten up it will be your own fault for the most part. Buy the new one. Bite the bullet and have a faster boat.

    Switching Rigs During a Regatta

that is definately defiend as illegal in the class rules. There are points when radials can beat full rigs ie when the breeze is cranking.

    Old Spars

Spars actually get stiffer with old age. Maybe your spars are bent?

Clew Tie Down - yeah right!

I had my clew fall off of the clew hook in the summer inexplicably after using it for a year with no problems. It was only like 10 knots but it still took me 10 minutes to put on. I have a strap and it has never come off.

    Starting Sequence

That is an odd sequence. I have only raced with a 5-4-1-go which is the standard in North America

Is it worth replacing the plastic ring between mast sections?

The fit should be very snug, that way it allows the two spars to act as if they are a single section which will improve performance.

    hardening a new top section

I spoke to an engineer about this, he is also a top notch laser sailor. He first thought that the rivet should be facing the side. Then he realized that he had forgotten to take into account that the mast bends sideways. I saw someones top section break while sailing upwind because of placing it...

"One design sail" - poor quality control for Hyde

I have the same problem with a brand new radial sail (North) versus my old cut sail (mk 4 maybe). The luff seems to be at leas 2 inches longer, and when i pull on enough cunningham the sleeve is usually mushed up by the gooseneck.
