One more thing, we live in west Florida were the sun is also very strong, we use Nu-Finish (orange bottle) once or twice a year on our 3 Sunfish, it is very easy to apply and beats off the salt water and sun. Do the entire boat except the seating area and the cockpit floor. Have been using this...
Jonclark, the cover is a must, the tarp is not a good idea, they migh bleed and stain the decking. Ullman Sails here in Sarasota has a good one, you can also find them @ APS. Intensisty sails has an inexpensive one but it only covers the deck, you want to cover as much as possible.

If the cracks are under the cockpit, they could have been caused by the trailer bunks.
If you also have cracks inside the cockpit, you should run a pressure test to see if they are just cosmetic or if you have a leak.

We recently used Bar Keeper to remove deep hull stains from our dinghy fleet. It did a great job and was able to remove some very old stains (yellow and dark brown) that none of the other products we tried could.
Very inexpensive and left the bottoms looking great.
Since you have the S/N, if the boat is not very old, you may want to contact the builder. We recently did a search on a Sunfish, LP could not help us, but started contacting area dealers and narrowed it down quite a bit, eventually finding the owner.
Good luck with your search

I have worked on several old sunfish trims, the pop rivet should only go thru the top side of the trim and the fiberglass.
To remove them, you should use a bit about the size of the existing rivet head. Go slow until the head comes loose, then use a smal bit to get into the hole (center of the...
Bill,
You may want to secure the extension cap with some electrical tape, they tend to pop, just wrap a couple of turns around the extension, that should hold it in place.

I have heard of strange leak spots, but most times it is a left over hole from a removed screw or something simple. Mast steps and dagger board boxes can also be the culprit, but removing the trim would be my absolute last thing to test.
Good luck
This years winter has been brutal for us Floridians not sure how you all faired in your neck of the woods, but sure hope that we go back to our 76 and sunny with 10 knots of wind (I wish).

Hi Gail,
I thought so to but then today I noticed Laser which are sold the same way as Sunfish.
When you click on Laser, it says "Laser sails must be purchased directly from Vanguard or an approved dealer". If we bug North enough, they might add Sunfish as well.
William
The other day I noticed that Sunfish is missing from North's www.onedesign.com, sent then an email to their general email address but never heard back from them.
It would be good is someone can get to them to correct this.
Thanks
William
Hi Tag,
I am in the process of modifing my trailer (performane L14) to fit a 2nd fish.
I checked this and other sites for trailer mods, but I can see that you have 2 on a trailer and like the way you have the spars mounted. If it is not much trouble, could you send me some pictures of your...
Tag,
We live on Siesta Key, and love this place, the summer is a bit hot but it feels great.
Every year we see a lot of people from Michigan here, this year more than ever, must have been very cold for you.
We sail out of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron; there are quite a number of Sunfish...
lymantuttle,
I have tried different ways of drying out hulls, in Florida with our heat, this is pretty straight forward, remove the bow handle, attach a shop vac to the bow handle holes,
open the drain a run it for a couple of days.
When they are real bad, I take the hull out to a sunny area...
