My First Trial Rigging (on trailer)

ok, so i have a swiveling cleat mounted on my boat. what exactly would having a ratchet block add to this setup? doesn't the cleat do the job of securing the sheet?

    Sail Cleaning

Does it say this is for rust stains? Mike4947... thats why im trying it on my old, battered sail... lets just hope i can scrub out the iron phospate. otherwise, i suppose it will just have a little black spot. Again, its the old one, so im not that concerened.

    Sail Cleaning

Thanks for the help. I just temporarily 'retired' my 35 year old sail for a slightly used spare I got with my boat, so I'll test it out on that old sail before risking staining the mostly white sail with chemicals.

    Sail Cleaning

In raiding my dad's store of cleaners and chemicals, i found a nearly full bottle labled as "rust remover", in which the active ingredient is phosporic acid, not oxalic acid. Is this safe for the sails?

    Sail Cleaning

Thanks, wayne. I'll be sure to stop by Ace Hardware and look for some oxalic acid. I have no idea what was causing the rust stains, they were there when i bought the boat (and sail). In the time the boat has been in my posession, i haven't had any new stains appear, so it looks like im simply...

Please allow me to introduce myself,

As for your son's duct tape idea.... I'm a high school student, and have had similar urges on my boat. While my dad (and his fiberglass expertise) was at sea, i have found that Gorilla tape works exceptionally well for a quick fix on minor cracks. In fact, i have a few strips at the bottom of my...

    Sail Cleaning

A few day trips into the sailing season, I've started to get bothered by the rust spots on my sail (I know, just a vanity thing...). The Sunfish KB suggests Star Brite Sail/Canvas Cleaner, or the specialized Rust Remover. So, my question is, does the Star Brite cleaner also remove rust...

    Edge Guards

Are you referring to the metal bump rail that runs around the edge of the boats?

    DIY Daggerboard

Honestly, i was rather content with my old board. And upon using my spare (i know it is newer and a different shape, but not when it was purchased), i have found that i prefer the old one. As for the pegs, you are absolutely correct. Thanks, Sam

    DIY Daggerboard

This is a cardboard mock-up of my planned board, traced from my original and then modified. The handle hole would have to be moved forward and down some to allow for a sound chunk of wood. The small hole would be for the bungee, and the two black dots would be the pegs.

    DIY Daggerboard

Thanks, everybody, for the input. I believe i am just going to duplicate the shape of my original ('76) board, and add 3 or four inches of height above the stops (which will probably be 2 pegs on each side) to integrate a handle. This extra height would only be on the forward facing side...

    DIY Daggerboard

I plan on using wana, a hardwood from Suriname that i happen to have some boards of laying around. As for the handle, i already have a block and clam cleat mounted on the deck, and i meant to have the handle just up, not back, in the way. The handle would be just continuous with the board, a...

    DIY Daggerboard

Hi, I would like to make a new daggerboard, and i am thinking of adding an integral handle out of the same piece of wood, angled slightly towards the cockpit to make it easier to pull up. How far do you guys think the daggerboard should stick up above the well? Also, im thinking of using...
