You may not want to drive this far but if you don't find anything in Charleston, I have family in Beaufort and I could tell you a few sites there.

    'Heaving to' in a Sunfish

Reading this wikipedia artcile, it doesn't seem it's possible to do this for boats with less than 2 sails? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaving_to Tequila was always more likely to cause me to heave than vodka.

Nice design... whimsical. I scene one might see underwater when turtled! Perhaps that's why no lifejackets? ... they're so serious afterall.

    Harken vs. Ronstan

I had the spring without the plastic washer on top for a while and it was difficult for the block to swivel. Once I installed a plastic washer it worked much better. Very much necessary.

New Sail for Xmas! Color schemes?

I did not use bleach since that particuilar sail was the traditional old sunfish style with color stripes as well as white areas. My sunfish logo was already faded but if one cared about that, bleach might be a concern with it as well. I used the same detergent that I use for my regular...

New Sail for Xmas! Color schemes?

The sail definitely came out cleaner. This was on a gentle cycle which only lasts about 30 minutes compared to normal which is about an hour.

New Sail for Xmas! Color schemes?

Regarding dirty sail... I know it is generally verboten and I would never do it on a newer sail but I just washed one in a LG front-load washer. This washer is a lot easier on clothes then my old top-load Kenmore. I wanted to wash the decades of grime/clay/mud from the sail as well as give the...

and the sail came tumbling down

Factory method of attachment of halyard to upper spar is a clove hitch next to some wraps of electrical tape which acts as both marker and to prevent sliding. The tape was getting old in the way that electrical tape does and started to "creep" as did...
