Our local dealer has had two or three boats for several months that he cannot sell because they are incomplete including blades and sails. He also has been billed for complete boats. I was told by sailors at the NAs that this was common all over the US. Mike

I understand that but thanks for pointing it out. Would you care to wager on where the delivery issues stem? I'll bet it has nothing to do with Hyde or North being too booked up to make an adequate supply of Laser sails. My guess would be the ability of LP to pay their bills. Mike Lindstrom

Fellas, Not to be argumentative, but Fred's thread is about the premium we pay for class legal SAILS. My comment was that we are paying a premium for something I apparently can't get. You would think that if there is $400 profit in the sail alone, the suppliers of that sail would make sure...

    Dns, dnc, dnf

Thanks! I chose the Gulf Coast Championship as my second Laser regatta ever and got my ars handed to me by a bunch of 15 year olds (I'm 53 on Thursday). I had trouble telling when it was time to start. When I saw all the standard rigs sailing off into the distance I thought to myself "this must...

How does this change the fact that my local dealer in the 4th largest city in the country can't get me a new standard Laser sail? (and hasn't been able to for months) Mike

I'm not sure what, if anything, this accomplishes given the fact you can't even buy a new sail whether Hyde or North. I've been on the "waiting list" since before the Gulf Coast Championship and still no light at the end of the tunnel. Mike

I have looked through the search feature and can't find the meaning of DNC. I know DNF (did not finish) and DNS (did not start) but what does DNC mean? Mike

    North Americans

I'm going. I'm in Montgomery, Texas and sail Lake Conroe. I'm 52 and 195 so we'll see how good I am not! Looking forward to it also. Lindy

Launching a Laser with a hoist

Exactly, make sure you get the brackets for the older, lighter jetski that has a hook at each end. The bigger brackets have and extra hook in the middle and won't conform to the curve of the deck on your laser. These work really well and won't make a mark on your hull or deck. Mike

Launching a Laser with a hoist

I hoist launch my Laser from my dock with a davit and a set of jetski lift cradles from Overtons. These are two metal bars that have a hook on each end and then a strap to a "D" ring. The hooks are dipped in a heavy rubber plastic and hook onto the gunnel rail at the deck, one on each side of...

    pwc trailer ok?

It all depends. If you turn you boat over with the bottom facing up and adjust the bunks on the trailer so they line up just outside the cockpit, a PWC trailer works well. A lot of good sailors prefer to transport their boats this way. Do not put the boat on the trailer with the bottom side...

    Mainsheet Blocks/Cleats

I posted this same question a week ago or so and got roughly the same response. This past Saturday I raced in my first Laser regatta and can offer the following: Unless you are in very good shape and can hold the main sheet, steer the boat and adjust the sail shape with your other free hand...

    News Geezers Gettin soaked

Fred, Back here in Texas we are pullin' for ya. You get um fat boy. By the way, the photo section of the host site has a great shot of you. You should check it out. Having a blast with my new Laser and going to my first Laser regatta at SSC this weekend. Mike on Lake Conroe

    Mainsheet block options

So the idea is to use the main as sort of throttle keeping the boat flat and dumping the puffs? I appreciate your patience here as I am new to the Laser. Coming from cats, main sheet settings are not as numerous or critical as it seems they are on this boat. ML

    Mainsheet block options

OK, I understand the reaction time thing but I'm not convinced. I sail on a very fluky lake with wind speeds of 12-20 knots. I find the boat absorbs the "puffs" well and having the sheet cleated allows me to concentrate on steering and sail set. I keep the main in my hand at all times for the...

    Main sheet cleat

Is a main sheet block cleat, located at the block, class legal? I'm thinking of the types of cleats that are on a swivel base, similar to those on a 470, that swivels around the center line of the main sheet block. The rule book is unclear as it states a "jamming device" is allowable, but I'm...

    Coming Back to a Laser

I just bought an '07 Laser Pro with two sails, a Trailex trailer and both bottom and top covers and saved about $2500 over buying a new boat with the same bits. I competitively sailed the Hobie 16, 18 and Miracle 20 from 1978 to recently. I got out of Cats for the same reason you did; no crew. I...
