I don't like split rings either, but I have had a Fast Pin disengage from the vang tang twice now. I was unable to fix that myself while on the water and had to go back in. :(
Therefore, back to split ring.
On my relatively new Laser hull, that distance across the mast tube is 65 mm; on your hull it's 69 mm (~2 mm more than the spec quoted earlier by LaLi). I guess that will put more stress on the bottom of the tube. What matters more is the 'solidness' of the mast step.

I think that Breeze Bender is off with respect to the sail. This thread is about a Super Sunfish, not a Sunfish.
An asking price around $2000 seems about right to me as well (with the trailer).
