I don't like split rings either, but I have had a Fast Pin disengage from the vang tang twice now. I was unable to fix that myself while on the water and had to go back in. :( Therefore, back to split ring.

On my relatively new Laser hull, that distance across the mast tube is 65 mm; on your hull it's 69 mm (~2 mm more than the spec quoted earlier by LaLi). I guess that will put more stress on the bottom of the tube. What matters more is the 'solidness' of the mast step. All the other blemishes...

I think that Breeze Bender is off with respect to the sail. This thread is about a Super Sunfish, not a Sunfish. An asking price around $2000 seems about right to me as well (with the trailer). Is the traveler bar up front in good shape?

Yes, mast step repairs can be done that way. Good approach IMHO, although I never had the pleasure :) of doing that.

Moreover, I doubt it would be helpful. Too many other things to watch and look out for.
