Class Politics Commercial promotion on List Servs?

Can a district secretary independently promote any commericial interest they see fit for district membership list servs?

Laser Performance is running a Laser giveaway and no doubt this will be used as a market gathering device and promotional tool.

District 11 Secretary is currently announcing the LP giveaway and this is clearly generating advertising for the company.

Are we not a private non-profit organization?

With respect to the builder of our toys, anything that promotes the health of the company serves the game in a number of ways.

As long asthe company does not abuse our trust and support hte best thing we can do for our game is to help make certain the company is healthy and able to spend money on warranty, product improvement, and promotion of sales.

The class and Bradley have never sold ads to topless bars, cigarette companies and politicians.

As a rule limiting acess to our membership has never been a problem need ing to be fixed as those who want to have access to our membership have been those who offer the exact same sevices and products we would otherwise have to seek out on our own.

Your district secretary and I agree,. We want our NA Builder to sell 20,000 new Lasers next year and if he can use the District list serve as a tool to help a bit to get some of those boats out on the water so you can befriend and race against the skippers, I am certain you will be among the first to shake his hand.

As long as it benefits or publicizes Laser sailing, I don't see any issue. Especially if I win the boat.

WOW!! Don't you have enough to bitch about because of the past elections. No harm in letting the district know. I'm sure we are all not as smart as you to know that its a "market gathering device". Don't sign up for it and stop whining.

A polite query is not whining.

JR, as long as LaserPerformance did not go around posting the offer themselves on the various sites, as a "comment" option, I see no problem and think its posting should be at the discretion of the district secretary. Everything these days is a market gathering device; this one is honest and overt. Hope I win!

I was just asking for opinions. Oh the past elections? Let's see I spent limited time asking for votes fo these reasons: It was a decision that I was late making, I traveled several hundred miles to a regatta, was working and dealing with a minor med. problem.
I am not really worried about losing the election, and there were 2 of us who lost.

I do not appreciate you saying I am "bitching." As an NA Laser Class member I have a right to ask about these things and certainly won't be using an angry tone.

Thank you and who are you?

And thank you Fred Schroth for defending my inquiry.

One year some time ago as District 11 Secretary, I was yelled at by Vanguard in an angry email for organizing a bulk sail of Laser from KO Sailing in TX as they offered a better price than APS in MD. Apparently I was cutting into their market. I did so innocently and was quite upset at receiving this letter that called for me to "stop the madness!"

Some years before that though, APS sold a large quantity of sails to TX sailors right in the middle KO Sailings Seabrook/Houston market. How was I hurting a mid-Atlantic dealer anymore than they were?

I was simply going on price and supporting a business trying to grow, thus keeping the market competitive.

I am simply trying to be an active member and asking questions and offering ideas, is a members responsibility.

It would be cool to win a Laser.

Thank you for kind opinions and defending me.

Just checking in on these things. JRF
