batten pocket

The end cap is caught in the bungie, you have to push it all the way to the back of the pocket and work it around the bungie.

Simplest way to deal with it is unpick an inch of stitching immediately below the trapped cap, push it out and then sew up using original stitch holes. Total time less than 5 minutes.

I just got an end cap stuck, too. It's somehow on the wrong side of the elastic - no amount of fiddling around seems to work it past the elastic. How's it built inside? There seems to be some hard object right where the elastic starts, that is now missing on the screwed-up batten pocket. Is this something that any sailmaker can fix is or is there some laser-specific part in there.?

Any sailmaker can fix it, you might even get it done for free if you open up the stitching at the end of the pocket , remove the endcap and then just have them sew it closed. There is nothing but the elastic on the inside of the pocket.

The elastic can get screwed up in older sails but any sailmaker can fix them so they work fine. I have a sail from Laser 1488 that just had new elastics in the pockets this year. (sail is now very ugly and very very blown out)

Tape or glue on all your batten caps. It was reading threads like this that made me do this task that took less than a minute.

Definitely good advice. I even did that, and I check my batten caps by yanking on them before I rig. Somehow this one got loose anyhow. Maybe I was testing them too vigorously...

At any rate, it's a $15-20 repair at my local sailmaker; not bad at all.

I suppose that you have tried bluetack on the end of the batton and this has not worked?

hey,
i just recently got my cap stuck in the pocket as well..something i did was i stuck the batton in again to put the cap on the end then as you are pulling out the batton with the cap on the end..you twist the batton. it works..not sure if it will work in your situation but its worth a try. Good Luck!
