Bent trailer axle

Hi, i was transporting my laser recently and somehow managed to bend the launching trolley axle! Anyway its a nightmare trying to pull it now and i'm wondering if anyone has had this problem/knows how to fix it?

Would be quite difficult to rebend without the right tools but it depends on how bent it is- could you post up a picture?? If it is really bad then it might be good just to cut it of and weld on a new one.

Hope it helps,

Good idea in relation to welding, thanks!
Won't be able to get a picture until next week but i was thinking of trying to bend it back using a Stillson wrench?

Again it all depends on how bent it is- I'm guessing your trailer is steel in which case you could do it though it would be very tricky without heating it up. If it is aluminium then it would be pretty easy- again I cant really help unless I know what it is- is there a possibilty you could describe it?

Brute force always works. If it doesn't work, you're not using enough of it.

No seriously, you'll need a big clamp/vice, heat, and a big wrench or something to grip above the bend in order to give yourself enough leverage to reverse the bend.

If you succeed, you win. If you break it, you'll need to replace it, which is no worse off then you are already.

When bending aluminum, heat it with a propane torch to soften it first. Don't get it red hot - that's too hot, it'll lose the temper and become brittle.

You can bend steel without heating it first, but it's easier if you heat it.

Before applying heat, disassemble and remove any plastic parts that'll be damaged by the application of heat or broken by the application of enough force to reverse the bend.

You could try your local metal shop, they should have the tools to bend it back or if its real bad they could weld a new piece in and make it even stronger. It won't take them very long to fix it so the cost won't be much.
