Boom end plug

Hello,

I need to tighten the eyestrap at the end of the book which hold that block for the mainsheet. I've been told that I would need to undo the plug at the end of the boom to access the nuts to tighten them.

The plug needs replacing too as there is a bit broken.

My question is how do I undo the plug? There are no rivets. Do the screts for the outhaul fairlead hold the plug?

Thanks

Drop a heavy rod down into the boom from the gooseneck end and then just slowly use it to knock it out (by gravity). If the plug needs replacing, you could also just use a hammer/hacksaw and smash/cut the plug out.

Sometimes, but not necessarily. The fairlead required position isn't indicated in the rules and it's position does vary.

I took mine out halfway through the season, I had to put new blocks on the boom and had to take the end plug off. I drilled out the rivets (and the one screw), then used a screwdriver to slowly lift the plug, trying to do it in as much equilibrium as I could. I'd use the method I did this time if I were to do it again.

My outhaul fairlead has screws not rivets - guess that's what's holding the plug then? I will unscrew it tonight and see what happens - thanks - looks like there are several different methods of holding it out there, my laser is 165,818

I did one a few years ago after drilling out the rivet, I had to drill a bunch of holes in the end cap. Then I got it out with needlenose plyers.

Just to add some extra info - THIS is an awesome tool for removing the gooseneck end plug.

There are plenty of ways to get it out for free - but if you happen to have other uses for such a tool it works like a charm.

And for a dollar or two you can pick up a 10x200mm bolts or two , cut the heads off and just bash the cap out from the inside using gravity.
