My season is over...

Not sure How many people are in the same situation I am, but my 09 laser season ended last weekend... Now I will just look at the boats in the garage... maybe do a bit of work on them here and there.

Anyone in the midwest sail through the winter?

After my current series of racing is up I'm taking my boat home for the winter, getting it 100% fixed and ready for next season. I'll take it home before novemeber.

No end to the season where I sail in the UK. Sadly other committments will stop me sailing until the spring soon although I may manage a few winter trips out.

I love sailing in the winter. The wind seems to be cleaner, the sun brighter. Altogether you cannot beat sailing on a crisp winter day (aside from the amount of kit you have to put on).

Sail all year round here. You get the best winds over the winter and as long as you have good kit its never too cold to go sailing!

why is your season over? lots of fun in MI still. this weekend Sept. 19th regatta in Traverse City at GTYC. Oct. 3rd in Harbor Springs always a blast hosted by Irish Boat Shop. UofM fall regatta. One in Grand Rapids too. We are still sailing in Mid MI on tuesday nights and sail our last day Black Friday(day after thanksgiving) on Haithco Lake in Saginaw. this is the best time of the year, typically the wind is up and the water is still warm.

The college kids are just getting started in the Midwest, they go through Thanksgiving. Yacht clubs in Detroit, Chicago and elsewhere are starting up frostbite series. Heck the summer schedule in Detroit goes until mid October. Come on pez, don't make us pasty Midwesterners look bad, we're supposed to handle the cold better than that :p Granted none of the above are Laser events, with the exception of a college regatta or two.

There's sailing to be had somewhere when there's no ice. Last year at Bayview YC we had to break ice to get the club U20's out of the water after the frostbite series.

Pez, you can have one last hurrah at my regatta--Oct 3, Powell (Columbus) Ohio. A couple of hours south of you and I'll buy your pizza.

Well, I generally sail my Laser well into October (here in Madison, WI), and after that the real fun begins... :D

My goal is to keep the time between my last Laser sail and my first iceboat ride down to the minimum (I generally loose about 4-8 weeks in the fall (late Oct. to late Dec.) and just a few weeks in the spring (late March to late April). I don't mind the fall hiatus too much because there's always work to get the DN ready for winter.

If you're interested in sailing during the "hard-water season", drop me a note and I'll try to hook you up with some locals - Michigan is quite the hot-bed of iceboating.

Cheers,

My season is over too.. snow season that is, so no more skiing for me. But my sailing season has just begun!

I have a month left, then I'll winterize my Laser. During the winter I will fix everything which needs fixing, store it then get it ready for next season. I will also get out my Mirror and get that ready for next season! It hasn't been used in 4 years!

Abersoch racing season is now over.................but now to home club at Crosby SC on the banks of the River Mersey near Liverpool. A brand new club house to be opened in the next few weeks. Only spend £9.5 million building it !!! anyone wants to come down and sail over winter, very welcome. We rarely freeze up its salt water.........
