Beware of eBay new Neil Pryde sail rip off

Many of you here already know this , but some might not and this is for you , and it makes my blood boil.
There are several sellers on eBay offering , and sadly selling , a steady supply of brand new Neil Pryde sails for vastly inflated prices compared to the $140 price direct from the online Neil Pryde store.
I have seen several of these sell for on eBay for over $200 , and several others are currently online with buy-it-now prices of around $195.
I contacted one of the eBay sellers about this , phillster2015 , and he couldn't care less. He was just sarcastic , abusive and about as bright as a 1 watt light bulb.
I have no affiliation with Neil Pryde , but I just don't like seeing people getting ripped off.
Len.

Caveat Emptor (sp) If buyers did their research and didn't assume that buying through E-bay or similar sites would yield a real "steal" they would be better off. Darwin had a theory about this sort of thing, actually so did P.T. Barnum..

I realize that , but others obviously do not , hence my post.
I'M TRYING TO BE HELPFUL

You may notice the most outrageous prices are generated by the bidders themselves through a blind bidding frenzy.

Caveat Emptor If buyers did their research ...
If buyers did their homework, ebay would be a very tiny web site.

I've always heard that a "good deal" is one in which the buyer and seller both walk away happy, regardless of what any outside party thinks about it. Having once been a car salesman, I sold cars at full list price to incredibly satisfied buyers who referred others to me, and I sold cars below invoice to people who still thought they were being raped.

But, I do appreciate your good intentions in trying to warn potential buyers not to overpay for a sail.

Maybe that might be applicable to people buying used cars , which are all different , with mileage , age , condition , wear & tear etc to take into consideration ..... but I personally don't agree with brand new identical sails being sold like this.
If I'd bought one for $195+ and thought I'd got a "good deal" , then found out that I could have bought the exact same sail for $140 directly from the maker , I would soon change my mind regarding my "good deal".
Forewarned is forearmed , just trying to stop Sunfish owners being rooked.

Well, if they never find out they paid too much, they will feel they got a great deal when they compare it to the price of an official sail. I am thinking maybe I should get in on this Neil Pryde racket!!

Anyway, speaking of high prices, someone says they are looking for $1,200 for what looks like a 1970 Sunfish on eBay - old style rudder mounting, fake racing sail and all.

BB

In that regard, you probably have never gotten a good deal on anything because no matter what you have purchased, someone somewhere has most likely been able to find it for less or been a better negotiator than you. Again, if you are happy with the purchase price and the seller is happy with the sales price, it's a good deal. That's the whole idea behind eBay...people bid what they are happy paying or they wouldn't have bid that amount.

Hi Bearadise ..... Thanks for explaining how eBay works.
I was simply informing any interested Sunfish forum members who might be considering purchasing a new , non class legal , Neil Pryde sail without a window that they would get a much better deal direct than via eBay.
If they have read this then that's great.

Hi BB .... Yep , I see what you mean.

Do you sell sails on eBay Bearadise ?
All I know is that the best deal I can find for a new Neil Pryde sail is $140 direct , so hopefully this information might help others.
Are identical sails available cheaper anywhere else I wonder ?

Sailsport Marine is selling brand new Neil Pryde sails for the Sunfish for $315, discounted for August to only $236. Hmmmm...I guess $195 on eBay is a good deal after all. Once more, if the buyer and seller are both happy with the money exchanged for the item received, it's a good deal.

Now, let's go sailing.

Take another look at their ad. They are selling class legal sails there, not the Neil Pryde. Or so they say.

Just to clarify - the sails we have advertised on sailsportmarine.com are the factory North sails. We have had some on sale that are a discontinued color, but we are only selling class legal sails at this time. We have had some aftermarket sails, but always advertised them as such and always will.

Sail what you like - It's all for fun.
