Don't let anyone kid you. Your boat is worth more than $1500. I can't say what the market is in the Bahamas, but here in Ohio you likely could get 3000 to $4000 U.S. for all your gear. Anywhere you are, you will get more if you part it out. For instance, you could sell the Radial rig separately.

i realize the importance of being positive on this site, but i feel we should also be realistic. after selling a mint, loaded 2005 last year for $4000 by following the current scale based on the prevailing market( yes it was a forced sale but it was a fair deal and a bargain for the buyer). i would like to see what US area is selling '98 era boats for $3-4000, regardless of how loaded the package. Pictures would have been needed for a better estimate. in the Bahamas you could command that price maybe due to shipping and the scarcity of boats. just my opinion.

It's hard to find boats for sale in my area in any condition. Perhaps prices are inflated here. I paid $2600 for a ten year old boat several years ago, and it didn't have the second rig and the top cover was a disaster. I stick by $3000 in central Ohio, especially if you sell any extra bits separately.

I'd start at something around (but not south of) $4000.

I might let it go for anything over/around $3500.

Condition is key to value in older boats- and that can't be determined by any posted description.

You'd be amazed at what I've seen passed off by the owner as "excellent condition."

For the last 3 weeks I've been watching a sim boat for sale ....95 laser that Dhillmyer has for sale. I'm surprised to see little "action" even with an asking price of $1950...with a picture. I would have been WAY better off snapping up a boat like that or yours ..than rebuilding my old one.

Folks are mentioning the bahamas, and I'm not sure why. I don't see anything in the post or user profile that indicates that.

Based on ads on craigslist, laserforum, etc... I'd tend to expect to see a pro rigged 98 go for more than 2K (unless really used up) and less than 3K.

For 3K+ I start to expect to be looking at boats from the 2002-2005 era.

But again, I can't emphasize enough, condition is key. Some of these boats have spent best part of a decade covered up in a garage, while others are out on the water every week in salt water bays getting pounded by 200lb dudes sailing in 20kt winds.

Another thing that kills old boats is being crushed onto trailer bunks by a too-tight tie-down strap.

In the US, there's a bit of seasonality to the market as more folks decide to buy a boat to go sailing during the summer months, and decide to unload in the fall.

Conversely, fewer folks want to buy a boat with the prospect of having to store it all winter before they can sail it.

So boats tend to stay on the market a bit longer when they come on in Sept/Oct or later, and that can affect the price a bit.

That being said, I think this may have more of an effect at the low end than the high end.

It's not so much about what the boat is worth, as it is what you can get someone to pay for it.

Some of my friends have sold boats and told me the price and it's just like: "Wtf, you sold it for that much." They say "yup" and then we both have a chuckle.
