Double decker Trailer.

I have a sunfish clone and a super porpoise and only one boat trailer. Does anyone have any pictures, plans or links for a trailer boat or otherwise modified to hold two Sunfish type boats?

Thanks in advance.

Thank You. I like the A-Frame multiple trailer design the best. Since I only have two boats it probably would not be as top heavy. I would really like to see pictures of a two boat trailer that is tried and true.

I can email you some photos of a double-decker trailer used with two sunfish. It's not my trailer, but one I saw for sale on eBay. I copied the photos so that I could fabricate one myself if I were to buy a second sailboat.

I have a double decker trailer for sale and I built a triple this past year.

The frame for the double is build out of old masts and booms and rests on a conventional galvanized trailer. The triple is build out of 2x4s and rests on a galvanized trailer.

Where are you located. I'm in New Jersey near Clinton.

I am in Dayton Ohio. Please send a picture if you have one. I would consider buying if the price was right and we could figure out how to get it to Ohio.

Thank You,

Here is a picture of the Trailex SUT 500 from the Castlecraft web site.
Do not think you could go wrong with this.

The picture was not available but I did find the website. http://www.castlecraft.com/multi_sailboat_trailer.htm The trailers are really cool. Theyeven have an "A" frame style. However they are a bit pricey at 10x the cost of my two boats and single trailer put together.

What would really be cool is a trailer that folds away and an upper frame that rolls off the trailer holding 2 boats for storage. This way I could use the trailer for hauling other stuff and get my worth out of the $40.00 annual registration fee.

I have attached photos of my triple trailer. It starts with 2 4x4 bolted under the frame of the trailer. The uprights and cross pieces are 2x4s that are bolted and gussetted using 3/4inch plywood. I bolted, screwed (drywall screws) and glued the gussets.

The two bottom boats are right side up, the top is upside down. Two dollies fit on the sides and the 3rd dolly fits on top upside down.

Warning. If you tow a Seitech dolly on its side make sure you tape the handle or it will vibrate loose and you will loose it.

Thanks for the pictures of the tripple trailer. The wood might be a bit heavy for my 8" wheels but I like the framing, nice job. Maybe I will try some type of galvanized. pipes.

I had my a Performance road trailer converted by my welder/fabricator brother , so I can use it either as a traditional UK style "combi-trailer" ( boat on dolly , on trailer ) ..... OR .... I can simply slot in two soccer goal shaped bar inserts to convert the trailer into a double decker , so I can transport a second boat , deck down , on top of the inserts. I covered the inserts in pipe insulation for protection.
Total cost , including used trailer , $150.
I have just shipped two boats back to England on the trailer. They're currently in a container , on a cargo ship , in the Atlantic somewhere !

Seems like a bar under the existing trailer and a couple uprights is the common design. You do not have a support between the two uprights except at the base.

I like way your dolly and trailer are combined. I thought of something like that except using a standard foldable utility trailer. Your brother does great work. Also you must have got a great deal on the trailer.

Hi Brian,
Once the lower cross members are securely welded , there is no need for any other supports , they are stronger than you'll ever need. The two "soccer goal" inserts can be slotted in/out in a couple of seconds.
The trailer was a originally used $125 Performance PWC trailer I bought via Craigslist ( they are often available here for approx $75-$200 ). A few hours of free labor later , and it's an ideal one or two boat trailer.
I also got my brother to convert a $100 used Continental PWC trailer into a UK style "combi-trailer" , so I can safely & easily singly-handedly slide a Sunfish strapped to a Seitech launching dolly , on and off of the road trailer in a second or two.
It works perfectly & looks great too.
I'll gladly e-mail you some photo's if you want them.
Cheers,
Len
