centerboard fit

wannabe

I am glad to say I finally found and bought a used laser. Now I have a question about the fit of the Centerboard into the trunk. There seems to be a lot of play side to side, if I push the board over to one side there is 1/4" to 3/8" clearance measured at the bottom of the boat. Could this be right?

Happy to get started laser sailing.

I just bought my first boat new this season and I have found that the daggerboard does have quite a bit of side to side movement. I am fairly sure that this is not unusual but i have thought it could be tighter in the case. Anyway i don't really know much as I have only owned the one boat

The board does move from side to side. It happens with every Laser. (or at least every laser I've ever raced against. This link has some tape in it that can fix that problem.

You should also move the "V" shaped rubber stopper forward to reduce play. I move mine up a couple of times and replace it altogether at least once a season.

The tape is, I think, not class legal and a fussy measurer at a regatta might chuck you for it.....

Instead of moving the rubber stopper forward try squeezing the sides in and tightening the screws. The inner faces of the "V" shaped stopper grip the centreboard on either side of the board reducing board twist, it works better then jamming the stopper against the back of the board as there is more contact area with the board.
You also dont wear out stoppers.

 good point, I've only used it on practice boats that belong to the club. I'll make a post in the class rules section........
