Ratchet switch

Hi, I've got a question about the ratchet switch on my Laser block. The ratchet block has "Laser" on it and is blue, I guess it's the original one with the boat (early 2007) ?. It has a red switch to engage the ratchet. The switch slides easliy between on and off, but the switch can also slide past the "on" position, here is gets stuck and is very hard to move back to the "off" position. My question is - is this done by design to stop the ratchet accidentally getting switched off or is this just a problem with my particular block. It's very frustrating if the wind drops and I want to turn the ratchet off.
Thanks. Also, does anyone know who makes this "Laser" ratchet block ?

No pic or link?

Sorry, no picture. As this block actually has "Laser" plus the Laser logo on it I thought it might be a common piece of equipment, maybe standard on UK Lasers ?

No, this one is definately blue in colour and has the "Laser" name and Laser trademark logo on it. That's why I thought it would be a well know block. Having said that I haven't seen another one like it at my club, but most of the Lasers here are quite a bit older. It works fine as long as the switch is pushed carefully from the off position to the on position, if it slides just past the on position it is very hard to push it back (unless there is some technique I have not discovered yet)

I remember blocks similar to this on boats from late 90's/ early 2000's.. Might be an older Holt block.

I've got one on my boat 189405 and son has one on his 189464, ours seem to work okay. When I've had trouble with ratchet blocks I've found a good wash in freash water cleans all the rubbish out. We probably got them from the same person near Bristol ?

The UK laser standard ratchet block (with the laser logo printed on) is an rwo block, the on/off switch dose stick if not used often, the lever is too small to put any amount of force on to free off, Ive found a good soaking in silicone spray tends to work well.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try giving it a good wash and/or soak in silicone spray. Abersoch-solo, I think you are right about the source of the boats, I remember Pete had several Lasers all around the 189xxx range. I've been very pleased with mine, no problems until last weekend when I decided to "play" with the ratchet and that didn't actually cause a problem - just a distraction.
