uk qual this weekend

No you don't need the GBR. All you need on your sail is your full sail number in the correct place. The class measurer has already stated he will be checking that sails are correctly numbered.

So did you come to the Q keenbeen? How did you get on if you did? Was some interesting tide to contend with out there, especially with the light winds.

i went and had a great time. AND i didnt come last! even beat goodison in race 3!...along with everyone else. Brilliant weather wasn't it...how did you get on?

Hehe, yeah there was a bit of an incident between goody and steve cockerill at the start I believe... :p

As I understand it one of them mounted the other at the start!! Also watched Goody get stuffed into the pin on the start of race 1!

Started with a 5th in race 1 so very happy with that. Didn't carry on so well but still ended up 30th overall in the radials - not bad when I'm full of cold and feeling very poorly. Hopefully be able to breathe properly by Highcliffe.

Did you get flagged in race 2? If so did the judge explain why? I think the same one did me at the leeward mark in race 3 when (in my opinion) I was compelled to break a rule by another boat not giving me room, but it's not an argument you're going to win is it...

And I believe it was goody who was the port tacker! Shocking!

Well done on your 5th! That's a quality result - I was on track for the same in race 4 but dropped my mainsheet coming out of a tack. Cue swimming and swearing. Still got a good result because the front of the fleet was well spread out. Love the feeling you get when you reach the windward mark with nearly the whole fleet behind you! Can't beat it!

I didn't get flagged, I just made a huge stupid error. The pond sailor in me chose my course on the reach in race 2, completely ignoring the tide and this meant I was then unable to get up to the mark. Once you get in the position the fleet don't let you back so I quit.

You had a good event Ben, you'll be catching up on the ladder with that result.

;) we'll see, I've got to prove it wasn't a total fluke by repeating it this weekend!

It's nice to finally be putting in the same kind of performance in the Q's as I do at the GP events anyway.

Forecast is all over the place at the moment - so no idea what to expect!

I got whistled for no reason whatsoever in that race 3. I can only think the top boys get a bit of favouring and they didn't like us amateurs being up there lol

so i didnt do stokes bay, wish i had. I went to highcliffe this weekend and wasn't too impressed. the clubhouse was poor it howled in on saturday so i didnt go out, nightmare launching but i can see it being a nice spot on asunny day. did anyone go?

haha, thats a pretty standard scenario for a laser qualifier you know ;) In fact it's better there than at a fair proportion of the venues we go to :)

Saturday was some AWESOME sailing despite being so cold. Oh, and it was pretty much dark when I finally got back to the beach. Kind of felt sorry for Ken Falcon... that committee boat left a little to be desired :p Ah well.

All I can say is that squall that came through was mental. I'm pretty comfortable in heavy winds given that I'm fairly fit and the upper end of the weight range for the radial, but it was about as much as I could handle getting off that start line :D

Highcliffe sailing club was exactly as I remembered it, changing rooms far too small, showers that flood the ladies and expensive car parking. Was a particularly expensive event for me as I entered and then realised I was too ill to sail - managed a triangle of race 1 and then quit. (Ian did enjoy the 'told you so' later) Cold I'd had since Ally Pally developed into full blown flu after Stokes and I just had zero energy. Did enjoy watching the fleet out in the squall whilst I sat in the cafe drinking hot chocolate though! Really didn't think Ken would get a third race in and was cold enough standing on the beach at the end of the day throwing trolleys at people without having been on the water for near enough 7 hours!

Secret recipe for winning all these gold medals :)?
