How many air jugs?

Halfjack

Dad & Lad
I was inspecting in my inspection ports the other day and found what looked like pieces of old broken floatation bags?

1) What's the real name for these floatation bags/ air jugs, and where can I buy them? (I can't seem to find them for some reason)

2) How many does an old Laser need (Justin Case)?

Thanks!

Never fails, I post and then finally find the answer - I got my questions answered at WestCoastSailing.com.

They're called Cubitainers, they use 3 10L in the bow and 3 20L in the stern and go for aprox. $8 and $10 each.

I appreciate any other info or comments anyone has!

It ain't class legal, but you can probably go to Wal-Mart or Target and get some foam water noodles. They're provide positive flotaation, and they fit easily through an inspection port. I don't if class legal floatation will.

You inflate them after you get them into the hull through the inspection port. Darned if I know where to buy them, though. I couldn't find them on APS. Maybe give them a call on their 800 number.

My hull is full of 2L Dr Pepper bottles :D

Kaiser, I was ok with this until I did the math, for the 90 L of floatation, you'd need 45 2L Dr Pepper bottles.

A few questions for you:
  • Does your boat attract bees and wasps?
  • Does sailing make you crave Dr. Pepper?
  • When you roll-tack, does it sound like a subway going by beneath your deck?
  • Does your sailing seem sluggish at all if you use Diet?
