Insails or Rooster replica sail ?

Hi everyone,

I'm UK based and need a replica sail to preserve my nice new standard sail that came with my boat. Several sailors at my club are using replica sails made by Insails, they seem very good especially as they only cost £140 (+£10 postage). The Rooster replica sail is a bit more expensive at £205 but is it any better?...... has anyone seen both to make a comparison ?

many thanks in advance,

Nigel

The issue was indeed discussed recently, however, it didn't address the question above. It appears that several of the aftermarket sail are made in the same sail-loft and I was attempting establish if there was any difference in the quality of the 'Rooster' and 'Insails' products. In the end I opted to order myself the Insail version (i.e the cheapest). I watched one of club members, using the Insails standard sized sail, on the water this morning (accompanied by an experienced Laser sailor) and we both decided that this particular sail was well made and had a good shape,

regards,

Nigel

I saw an InSails Radial replica last weekend (the first InSails sail I have seen). it looked pretty good and seemed to set pretty well. The lad who was sailing it was certainly having a good fight with the other radials at the club.

If you can get hold of one though the Intensity is the one to have (they do export to the UK). There was a guy on the south coast who was importing them, they came out about the same price as the InSails.

If you can't get one I would go for the InSails, I am told they are made in the same loft as the Rooster (this may or maynot be true).

Anyway aren't you getting to grips with the 8.1 yet???

I think that the 8.1 is just brilliant, however, I have very little experience of sailing Lasers hence my need for a 'soft option'. My club has run a couple of informal training events for Laser sailors ( I seem to boost the average age by some considerable margin !) so I thought it only fair to turn up with same equipment as the others. Bert and I are racing with our 8.1 rigs at a charity event at Alton Water on New Year's Day (I did invite you via a PM on the other forum, but I guess that you're busy ?).

Hi Nigel,

I do apologise I do not log in to Y&Y that much because I have an issue logging in at work.

Indeed you did, I will see if I can get a pass. Is it just a turn up and have a go or do I need to pre-enter?

Paul

No pre-entry required, £5 to enter for single handers, some excellent prizes, eleven o'clock start and usually very light winds........just a bit of fun really, but all done in aid of children's charities. There's also a rumour that the rescue boat at the far end of the course (The Lemon Hill Bridge) will be dishing out mince pies to competitors,

Could be fun,

Nigel

The new 'InSails' sail arrived today and it does look very well made - it's complete with a set of battens and very good quality full length sail bag.......an absolute bargain !

Darn, I knew I should check in here more often, I seem to miss all the fun!

I'm sure I read on an earlier Insails advert that the sails were all made by one loft, and labelled under the rooster, insail, or intensity badge for different markets. I was going to go for an insails one myself (cost reasons - we're in a credit crunch here you know! ;) ) but ended up with a locally made one at no cost. Its not great, but gets me around the course. Eventually.

Not quite true. The Intensity is made of a heavier cloth and made in their own loft. Pretty much all the other 'Replica/training' sails are made in the same loft and just badged differently.

FWIW I love the Intensity I have but will probably replace it with an InSails when the time comes (unless I find someone who has imported a batch to save me the hassle)

Perhaps I misread the ad.

I hope someone takes one of the brands into NZ as well, or its going to be an expensive migration for me!

Watch out Auckland, I'm coming back!:D

Mike Pascoe of NZSailing.net is the local reseller of Rooster sails (~NZ$370). Bought a couple of sails from him and other parts too and found them all good and great value.

Martin, you wont regret it! Mine is just over a year old and has been hammered as it has mainly been used in stronger winds. Looking at it you would not realise that though. it is still nice and crispy and there is very little evidence of stretching.
