mainsheet catching on boom gybing

Hi,

This has happened a few times this season during what I thought were pretty decent gybes. Does anyone have any suggestions to prevent this?

Cheers

this used to happen to me alot during the summer. all you have to do is sheet less violently. its hard to find that balnce between getting caught on the transom and the boom but just do a million gybes and youll figure it out

what i do is when i feel the boom is at centerline at that quick instance i tug on the mainsheet to pop in a lot of slack but then as the boom continues to go across it pulls that slack out again so u dont have to worry about it being over trimmed also.

Probably like most things it all comes down to practice but, interestingly (or not) this has only started happening to me since I got the G-XD mainsheet....you know, the red one. I can't remember the proper name for it.

It started happening to me this year as well, but only in breezes over 8 knots. I found that if I stopped popping the mainsheet on the crossover, but merely "brushed" it at the boom block, it stopped. I have to agree with Matt as well, do a bunch of jibes and you will find your own style.

it's the lirios mainsheet, have had it with my rooster mainsheet to, i think its because the older sheets were heavier due to waterabsorption. The new sheets dont soak up water end are because of this significantly lighter.
