Laser Sailing in Destin, Florida (rental?)

I may get a chance to spend a few days in Destin, FLA in early August. I'm wondering if there are any rental places that have lasers? Or maybe some other kind of dinghy? I prefer monohuls but a cat will do as well. I hate how they sometimes modify the boats in a tourist-friendly way (boom-less HC16 with "hiking benches," WTF?), but I currently do not own a boat and I miss sailing very much. .

Any suggestions?

Let me know when you are going to be here. I have a boat that I can probably spare for a few days. It has the new rigging but the blades and bottom are not exactly pristine!

I was in Destin a couple of weeks ago. Took a couple of Sunfish and a seitech dolly. The sand is deep, and it took three of us to drag a boats across the beach. They were renting some Hobies (Hobie Wave I think) near the Whale's Tail you can sail off the beach. Same guy rents jet skis, etc. We used his bouys for racing marks. I think there may be some other options if you google sailboat rentals destin. FYI - there were a lot of jellyfish and june grass. Not a problem for sailing, but kept a lot of people out of the water. I also found the wind was on the light side (less than 10 mph down to not much).

What is June Grass?

It's what the locals call the green stuff in the water that is either algae or seaweed or something. I've been to Destin a number of times and never seen it before. It may be gone by now. Does not affect sailing since it is mostly close to shore, but it obscures the clear water and makes the jellyfish hard to see.

Yeah last year we did a regatta out on the beach & getting the boats to the water was an experience NOT to be repeated!!

There are a couple of nice sandy beaches on the bayside that are really easy to get to, so I would suggest sailing out of there.

Hope you enjoy your time down here - we've been here 15 years and it will take dynamite to get us out :)

Mike--thank you so much for the offer, way more than I expected. I will likely be coming down this thursday and be staying through Sunday. I am not entirely sure if sailing will work out, but I will send you a private message with my cell number. I have no idea how to thank you.

And HookEm--thanks for the Whale's Tail tip. I might have to take some of my friends out for a quick ride so a Hobie would be perfect. A laser just doesn't work for that.
