Warped Foils

Ok so i picked my boat up yesterday from the 4.7 worlds and was rigging up this moring when i discovered that my centreboard is warped!
It is only warped in the bottom corner of the trailing edge an the board has been used once. I have heard that the are ways of straightning a bent centreboard with a hair dryer etc...

If this is true what methods can i use to straighten my board as i am going to be doing some serious regattas this month

Any help please would be appreciated

Just heat that bit and flatten it with some pressure from some flat lumber or what have you. That worked well for me to flatten a warped trailing tip. The board becomes quite pliable when heated, including being in a hot car or garage.

ya i think thats what happened it was in the foil bag and the padding was a bit bent so it molded to that shape
So if i put weight on the edge and heat it with a hair dryer will it work?

I think it will. I used a heat gun on a very low setting. I actually was able to mold it with my fingers, as it was just the tip.

And, 'ChrisRSA', if you are a rich, please donate some Bucks to the honourable "Mr. E. Bunny Care-Foundation EBCF" at Austin/Texas/USA ;) for that the gouve is able to initiate more of those great advises for Laserites like that at that link above.

No methods work well, same thing happened to me. It does not make a difference in performance. Thats vanguard for you!

If you read the original post carefully, the boat he got was picked up in South Africa for the 4.7 worlds, meaning that that boat was actually manufactured by Laser UK not Vanguard. On a further note, both Vanguard and Laser UK use an outside vendor (a UK company) to manufacture their blades. Do your homework next time.

You are an a$$hat.....

Alright dude, whatever. I tried many times over to straighten it, and all failed. I tried everything. Mind you, it was not a very big crease, and my performance did not change. I strongly dislike vanguard. Almost every product I have ever owned from them has been warped by heat, if had imperfections from the factory.

Chris I used the method described in this link that I found in one of governail's postings.
http://www.schrothfiberglass.com/LaserMaint.htm It worked fine for me but I had to do it three or four times to get it to a point that satisfied me..My board had both a full length bend (slight) and a sharper bend at the tip..I would like to know how much performance is affected by a warped board.

Well, I had to Google that one. It is a version of "you have your head up your rear." Scott, (The Boathouse) you are a Vanguard rep. Your language is inappropriate in response to an offhand comment by A KID.

Mine was an offhand comment by an old guy. I am not a Vanguard rep, I sell their products and as a disclaimer it does not reflect nor does it imply the thoughts, wishes, policies, or opinions of Vanguard its employees, ownership or management..

I had the same issue, heating it worked fine. Clamping two strait boards to the board may not be enough- it springs back a little. I had to stick a wedge in to push it farther than straight.
