Hi, I've been looking at both the laser coach cd, and the rooster sailing cd. any recomendations among these, or for books? I have dick tillmans book but found most of it was old ground, with the interviews being the most useful.
thanks

The Laser Coach CD is good. Still relevant with good footage. The Ben Ainsley book comes with a CD but I have heard (and seen) some questionable rule 42 action on it. The other book that is really good and covers tons of info is the Ben Tan book. It predates the new rigging but only by a few months. I still have not seen the rooster CD. APS, Glenmore Boats, Fogh etc all have this stuff in stock. Just check around for availability.

Second the LC2000 CD. The production quality is a little dated, but the video content and explanations are 1st rate. By far the best learning device I've come across - it has improved my boat speed and downwind boat handling noticeably.

I have a copy of the Rooster CD but it seems to be an interactive advert for rooster goods with videos. I would recommend the CD with the Ainslie book. There will be a new SailDisc CD launched in the near future for coaches/instructors.

much of the rooster CD seems to be on their website too. Rooster excellent articles on their website that have some imbedded video clips. Very good explanation of sailing by the lee.

There is also a video tape that used to be available called "Luthor's Favorite Laser Clips", or something like that, which I really enjoy. Luthor Carpenter (US Natl Coach) put it together.

I've found the best self teaching aid is Glen Brouke's book Championship Laser Racing. kinda dated when it comes to talking about wearing weight and other things that have been phased out. But the sections on fitness, and practicing are extremely useful, and the racing advice is priceless. As for CDs I've never had the extra $ to spend on one, maybe one day when I get a real job...
