Hiking Pants Sizing - Comparison to Wetsuits

I am considering getting a pair of 3/4 neoprene hiking pants in the next couple of months, and I am curious about the sizing. I have read the articles and the postings here on the laserforum, and I want some comparison fit info.

I wear an XL in my spring and short john surfing wetsuits (I outgrew my large-tall suits a long time ago). Do wetsuit sizes translate pretty much straight across to the recent hiking pants sizing?

You'll get better answers if you post your waist and leg length. Did you read the article in The Laser Sailor (about 2 years ago IIRC )

If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend trying a few brands on prior to buying.

Waist 35", inseam 34". I read the Laser Sailor article. I would like to try the Roosters and the SEA 3/4 pants, but as far as I can tell, both require mail order to get my hands on them.

I bought the rooster hiking shorts and have bashed my shins to bits. I wish I'd gone for the shin tech's.

Rooster have a sizing guide I think, but you can also email them and they will suggest a size. I was a bit in between and went for the smaller size - they recommend this to reduce movement and they do expand slightly once wet from launching.

My waist is about the same, but my legs are few inches shorter - I have the SEA 3/4 length size Large (I also wear an XL wetsuit but that's because my upper body needs it.)

My thighs are fairly big, the large is tight on them but that's how I like them.

If they are european sizing, I think you can assume it is pretty close. I bought a Neilpryde shorty this spring M/50 and 3/4 hiking pants from Magic Marine that were M/50 also. In both cases, the 48's were too small.

I didn't have the option of trying on Rooster or SEA because I was at a regatta, it was blowing, and they didn't have the style in the other brands or the brands.

I love them. Definitely, the over the knee style is the way to go. And the suspenders help keep them from sagging off the rear.

I'm 5'9 with a 30-32 inch waist, I just ordered a Medium off the Internet, does this seem right? I got the SEA 3/4ers

I am 5 10 180lb 33 in waist and I use the large size of the SEA airprene 3/4 They seem to grow in size when wet. I find however that the battens on the theighs are a bit low and the material behind the knee does bunch up. The knees should have been cut with a pre-bend.

Not sure if I would buy that brand again as I feel that they are not as durable as I initially thought they would be.
