Excuse my newness - just found this site. Canadian here moving to Kiel, Germany and need to get a Laser (radial rig) for the Kiel Week Regatta! Haven't raced dinghys for about 8 years... Anyone know of one for sale? Also looking to train with a team or local group if one exists. Going for the National level - have passed the age of Olympics... Help!

Hi,
in the moment not much Laser Radial, that are useful to race at Kiel Week are to offer at GER, sorry. I keep an eye on your request. You have to join the German Laser Association ("DLAS") to be permitted to race at Kiel Week (-> http://www.kielerwoche.de/ ). The DLAS-office is at Kiel (not so far away from the famous YC "Kieler Yacht Club"). The chairman of the DLAS lives at Kiel (at the DLAS-office) and is one of the Honorary Vice Presidents of the ILCA, too. He perhaps also is able to say to you, where at the Bay of Kiel you find a Laserfleet you can join.
For more informations about the Laser-Scene of GER you may visit the Homepage of the DLAS: www.laserklasse.de .
There you find a forum, too. Also, there you may start a request for a used Laser Radial, aft you have joined the forum as a member (this will need a few time, sorry, to check your account, in reason we had some trouble with spam there during the last month).

Thanks so much! We're moving there in 2 weeks and I'm super excited to learn more German (Ich spreche ein bischen) and to get back into dinghy sailing. Hope to meet some good people there too! If I can't find a laser, I will try to join a bigger boat as crew for the regatta. Thanks again - will check it out when I get there.

Well! You may come ;) If you want to sail at Kiel my advise is this club: http://www.ycs-strande.de/

I have sailed there as a guest a few times, during I lived at Kiel Schilksee in the mid of the 90ties. I remember, they have been very friendly there and helpful.

Be aware, Kiel Week is "THE" sailing event at GER. ~4000 to 5000 active competitors are racing there, often on top level. But, if you chose a sailing class, that is not olympic, you perhaps will have a chance to see the sailing fleet not only from the "last 1/3 of the rankings"... ;o)

Good moving to Europe

This I have to correct: You only have to be member of the ILCA in that region you come from. For you, this is North America. This means, you save some money if you join the ILCA-NA and ask them to join the list of Laserites from NA that are allowed to start at Kiel and you start for your native country.

Also there is one point to think about for you, the "start-money" at Kiel is very expensive (110Euro).

No worries on the start money, it's the laser money I'm worried about. If I can't find a laser (it sounds like it's going to be hard), I won't be entering... I have to check into the ILCA as it was different back when I was racing.

Yup, of course, Lasers in general if they are in perfect racing contition, do cost a looot of money here in Europe... I have seen one at the Netherlands for you. Go to www.laserklasse.nl and there to "Botenmarkt" and there to "te koop". There you find a Laser Radial 177554 that seems to be a useful offer.
Another offer is to find at the next link (an official Laserstore in West Germany). It's a Radial that is used but nearly is new, look for No."185232": http://www.eiermann.de/gebraucht/gblas.html

To carry the Laser from "NED" (or that Laserstore) to Kiel we will find a way.

Again, if I find something usefull, I let you know, but therefore you have to open your "private messaging" functionality at the TLF-account-section, please.

Ciao
