Dolly Brands

That looks like a nice enough dolly, if all you want to do is transport the boat. The drawback is boat storage. The Seitech has fittings to suspend the boat under the gunwale at the bow and sides, so you can store the boat at its strongest points. Suspending it helps the hull to keep its proper shape, too. I store both of our Lasers on Seitech dollies because of this feature.

I made my own by buying the plastic parts from Seitech, and bought the aluminum (with radius corners) from Metal Supermarkets. To save extra costs you can delete all the parts except for the front where the bow clips on. Make all the joints from sheet aluminum.

I improved on the Seitech in other areas and it was cheaper by a long shot

I am looking for a better way to carry my laser across the sand; I keep the hull on beach. I came across this one http://www.veecart.com/V-5Dual.html . I exchanged a couple e-mails with them (very responsive), and it sounds like a possibility for my beach launch, especially at $150.

Anyone else have one?

Unless the sand is packed really hard, those wheels are just going to sink and make it really hard to move the boat. You also would most likely not be able to have the sail rigged, the base is to narrow so any movement not in the same direction as the wind will make it tip over..... Lastly, it's really hard to push or pull just using the bow or stern.

Speaking of dollys and sand...

Seitech has different wheel sizes: A,B, and F. The F wheel is the largest and is recommended for use on sand. F is both wider and has a larger radius than the other wheels.

Is the F much better on sand than the A wheel for lasers? (I will be launching from a beach on a regular basis that has some slope to it.)

It really depends on how soft the sand is. I have the A's and they work fine on 90% of the beaches I launch from. They work on the soft sand, but I wouldn't want to have to pull it thru more than 100 feet. The couple of guys I see with the F wheels hardly notice the soft sand.

Steven: I'd love to hear more about your DIY Seitech. Especially what parts were "deleted," and how you made the joints.

I would like to build a double boat rack for my trailer.

I called Seitech last year to find out which parts I would need to order to assemble a rack. They were very secretive, which I thought was weird since all the parts are available to order online. You'd think they would be happy to sell their stuff to anyone for any reason.
