Plastic Gudgeons for racing

New member here,

going to do some regatta's this summer and am using a borrowed 06 hull.
she's barely been sailed, and has the plastic oem gudgeons.

just curious if those will be an issue w heavier use in racing and if swapping out for the SS is necessary?

there is not an inspection port on the aft deck, which I'm assuming will be needed to do the swap?

Thanks!

The Laser hasn't had stainless gudgeons since the late 1970s.

And they've always been just screwed in place, not bolted.

Sure they'll be legal forever, but I don't think any have been available for a very long time (40 years or so). And no, you don't need them.

You sure they are legal? Wood boards are also legal just not on boats the originally came with fiberglass ones. I think the metal gudgeons are the same way. Only legal on the old boats

Unless they are broken or worn, no reason to mess with them. And with a casual search of the web, I was unable to locate any stainless steel Laser gudgeons. Well, class legal anyway.

Class rules 14(e) and 15(i) say you can't use wooden foils on a hull that was originally supplied with non-wooden ones.

No such rules exist for any other "old" equipment. Whatever has been legal at any time will stay so until it's specifically banned.

(And by the way, what ang suggests is pretty typical for imaginary class rules: people tend to think the rules are more restrictive than they actually are.)
