Is this Bandit trailer too short for a SF?

Hi all, best new year wishes to everybody!!!

Please let me know if this trailer will work, or if it's too short....picture attached.

I measured 8' from the winch crank to the axle (can be increased slightly by sliding the attachment forward), and 10'6" from forward tip (where it would attach to ball) again to the axle.

I understand I'd need to make bunks, probably using 2x6 planks, but it looks like there would be 5' of boat behind the axle; isn't that a lot?

BTW, it will be less than 25 miles on the highway to where I'd sail her.

Thanks

You might add longer bunks to support the boat and might consider loading it back wards. But I would suggest with over half the weight behind the axe, the trailer will fish tail or wobble from side to side if you drive very fast!

Whew!!! Great, thanks! Good to know that the trailer will work if outfitted with good bunks/placement.

I followed the link to the yahoo site... the scribing part looks a bit tricky.

I basically have the same trailer as you do and it works perfectly fine.

You can see how I set it up in this thread.

I don't think you will have any problem. The trailer looks like one built for a 6-800 pound SeaDoo or jet boat PWC, sturdy, well built and probably weighs more than the boat that will be on top of it. I would move the upright holding the crank as far forward as possible and it should trail well.

Cool, thanks Irish (and everyone else).

I'm wondering how long those bunks should be...I'm guessing about 6 feet (or the full 8 feet)?

Thanks, danpal. Is there an idiot-proof way of scribing out the shape of the hull onto the planks? I looked at the yahoo pics, the concept seems clear enough, but I don't want to mess it up. I know that the worse that could happen is that I get 2 more planks and start again.

You really don't have to be that exact. The padding that you put on top of the bunks makes up for any discrepancy. I pretty much did it exactly like it's shown in the pics.

I also used the sill seal padding rather than foam because it's closed cell and would provide padding without getting too compressed.
