Laser 13 Rigging

PLEASE HELP....

We have recently purchased a Laser 13 and need to replace / renew the standing and running rigging. Despite trawling the Internet we cannot find the Lengths, thicknesses and types of rope that should be used. Some people have advised measuring the old rigging, but in some cases it's missing, and we want new correct length shrouds - unstretched! Please can someone help us, we are aware that the LASER 13 is no longer manufactured, but are very dissapointed at the lack of available support for these dinghies.....

This is a problem with boats whose production stopped before the internet age. I assume you're familiar with this, though: http://lasersailing.ch/newpage/Anleitungen/L13rigmanual.pdf

I can't say I know anything specific about the Laser 13, but just from general dinghy experience I'd recommend for ropes:
  • 8 mm soft-cover rope for the mainsheet, such as Marlow 8 Plait Matt
  • 6 mm double braid polyester rope for the jib and spinnaker sheets, such as Excel Pro
  • 5 mm Excel Pro or similar for everything else.

As lengths go, you have to figure them out yourself. You can use an existing rope to help in measuring the approximate lengths, then buy a metre or two extra of each, go sailing and then cut them to the right length when you see how much you need in reality.

If you think the shrouds are too long, then you must have some estimate of the right length?

How does the Laser 13 compare to the Laser II?
More of a family boat?
