Questions on Laser Sail Number

Hello all this is my first post on this forum. A question has arose on the number of my sailboat. Backstory: About a month ago I purchased a Laser that was made in 2012 from what the owner said, and he had only sailed it for a few times so it was essentially new. I've always sailed radial, but recently I have reached the substantial weight to support a standard sail. I received one training sail (intensity sails), and two race sails. None of the sails had numbers on them so I purchased numbers. I was getting the serial code from the stern of the boat. I had the serial of: US-OQTL3124H122. I then went to the laser xd site to see what my sail number was with the given serial code. I had the sail number: 213124 I then thought to myself that this number couldn't be correct, because I have never seen a sail number that had a 21 as the frist two numbers. I then went to the Laser website to find out if a sail number with the first two digits above 21 existed. It didn't. So I then went back to the Laser xd website to see if I did something wrong. It says that A=10 B=11 C=12 D=13 E=14 F=15 G=16 H=17 I=18 J=19 so I assumed K=20 L=21. And there is the L in my serial code, which symbolizes the first two digits of the number. I'm in a pickle, and don't know what to do. Could anyone help me out? Thanks, Duke

203124 could be the number of a late 2012 boat. The letter I has probably been skipped in the coding so it wouldn't be confused with the number 1.

Doesn't your boat have the number on a sticker at the back of the cockpit?

I can check later today its being kept at my local boatyard.

I actually had the same situation. Recently purchased a 2009 Laser that also had an "L" in the code, which by the numbering convention would indicate my sail number starts 21xxxx. In fact, that is what is on the sail. There is a silver/metallic sticker at the back of the cockpit that says the sail number is 19xxxx. So Torrid is correct in saying the serial numbers no longer match the sail number.
