Odd doings at the Midwinters

Excellent turnout!

As I recall, this regatta is a qualifier for the PanAm games.
Or is my memory failing me?

This is new to me so, following "Skipper" and the entry "Sunfish", what significance do the letters [SM], [SJ], [SL], [SI] have?

I hope they post a recap soon. It is very interesting to see some really good sailors struggling the whole event. This is one of the strongest fleets at a Sunfish championship in a long time. The top American qualified to go to the Pan Am games, so Connor Blouin is on his way, and then the top country that had not already qualified to send a sailor qualified their country for the games in Toronto.

These countries were already qualified.
ARG, BRA, CAN, CHI, ECU, GUA, MEX, PER, PUR, USA and VEN

It looks like the USVI was the top non-qualified country - I assume USVI is eligible to sail in the Pan Ams. Amazingly USVI tied for thirteenth with Bermuda, who also was not qualified, but USVI won the tiebreaker.

Here is some more info on the qualifying, and there is more if you poke around the site.

The scores say they have sailed the races 1,2,4 and 5. Wonder when they will sail race 3? http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_regatta_results.php?regatta_id=9364

I was not there and do not know the answer, but my guess is that race 3 was abandoned and not resailed.
On reason for doing that would be having a bad line setup (or other RC error) in a penalty start and failing to postpone before the starting signal. If the race is resailed, then many boats would be DSQ'd when it's not their fault.
