Maiden Voyage

I had a terrific first sail today on my "new to me" 1974 Sunfish. Enough breeze to instill some confidence in the rig, and inspire some high level enthusiasm for my next outing. The newly installed cockpit bailer from Intensity (super fast shipping) worked great as did my newly reconfigured hoisting system. (I switched from starboard side to the more common port side) I had installed a new bow handle, as well as a mast cleat, re-did some aluminum rivets, and spray board screws. Good coat of Collinite Insulator Wax really spiffed it up.

I ordered some boom main sheet holders as I found the mainsheet catching the top of my pfd on tacks, a wind indicator and some telltales, again from Intensity.

Without a doubt this is the best $500 (boat/trailer) I have ever spent. Love it.

Great story jimcameron. What area are you in? I recently took out my 1964 unfish fo her maiden voyage. I was planning on taking her out again next week but the forecast is for (gasp!) rain. It's nice being from Southern California where one can sail year-round. I might have get a springsuit, though. Got a new tiller fabricated and the bow handle installed. A little touch up paint and I'll be ready to go.

Thanks guys! I live in Sewall's Point, FL. It's a little spit of land between the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers in the Stuart, Florida area. It's on the Atlantic Coast about 2 hrs north of Miami. It is pretty decent sailing weather all year around. The US Sailing Center, Martin County is about a mile up the road. usscmc.org Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy these great boats.
