Theological question about which side of mast the sail goes on - continued

A while back this question was discussed at length here http://sailingforums.com/threads/a-theological-question-regarding-sunfish-rigging.30686/

Given the long-standing placement of the sail on the port side of the mast, I was recently shocked, I repeat shocked, when I visited the LP website and found out that the beauty shots they have of a Sunfish with the blue and pink sail have the sail on the wrong side of the mast!!

Must have too many Laser employees on staff who aren't used to an asymmetrical rig! BB

Good catch Beldar!

Thanks for linking the LaserPerformance site!

That was likely the left-handed Sunfish with 'classic' wooden blades, according to the pictures.

I see we can order boats directly, by-passing what they must see as their now inconvenient dealer network. It has a box for 'coupon code' and when I tried the code from the retailmenot.com site I saw that the initial 10% discount code had expired. Authorized dealers must love competing with all that.

Since we're messing with the dealers' livelihoods anyway, I am guessing that LaserPerformance issues on-line discount codes selectively to institutional-grade clients. It would seem like our network on this board here is deserving of having and sharing a similar discount code. Not to be a trouble-maker, but I would suggest collectively holding out for a really fat discount rather than ordering directly, if we are considering ordering through the site. I'm not talking a miserly 10%. Otherwise if I were paying full list that they're showing on the site, or even close, I'd stick with the dealers who have in turn supported all of us and the class all these years.

I noticed that their one 'sale' item was their own 'knock-off' non-North Laser sail (undercutting North, but still double the existing Intensity-replica price) that they indicate is 'not yet' class legal but they also say that they are pushing for class approval. Wow. Nothing like putting it to their long-time partners - suppliers as well as dealers - all the way around.

Happy to see this discussion still attracting responses. Beldar must have wept when he saw those pictures!

Minifish2, so you know who makes the Mark ii Laser sail? I'd be surprised if it is not North or Hyde. They seem to be the two suppliers LP has not decided to alienate. That may be as they have all historically reaped the profit from overpriced sails. Once they go for ISAF approval ILCA will get involved which could help dictate the loft. And I see these sails are pre-order only. Who know if any will ever be made.
