McWilliam Laser Sail

Hello all. New to the Laser forum, and just picked up my complete laser. It is a 1974 with original wood blades. Came with one standard older class sail, and also a McWilliam blue and white sail that is really stiff and heavy, with no laser logo. I would say it weighs twice what the original does. Does this sound normal? I measured the sail and it seems to have the same dimensions. Feels like a really good quality sail though just worried about the weight.

Thanks for any insight.

That is probably a training or cruising sail by the sound of it. Fine for messing around with but unlikely to be suitable for racing if the cloth is that heavy as you will be unlikely to be able to trim it correctly (not to mention that it is not class legal).

Thanks Jeffers,

I am not going to race this laser, the deck is really bubbled and raised, but in good shape otherwise. Anyone want to trade for a 4.7 sail and bottom mast? I need to find a 4.7 setup for my kiddos (and myself) new to laser sailing.
