I just bought a 1973 470, it needs some tlc and I have to figure out what half of the random lines are going to. Does anyone have any good layouts?
I have owned and sailed on keel boats, Hobie Cats and Lasers. The 470 has researching a ton because I don't know or haven't looked at it long enough..

Hi NH470,
Where are you sailing? I'm in sw nh. I'd like to see how you are doing with your 470, I have many of the same issues, A little TLC to mine is needed and trying to understand all the lines on shore is quite a job, knowing them while sailing will be exciting.

I 'm in Nashua and sail it at lake winnisquam nh and stonighton ct in the ocean. In laws and my parents house. I have almost everything figured out so far. I have changed a lot too because it didn't work for me how it was setup.

Broke the tiller handle this weekend in the crazy wind on Saturday 40 minutes into it. It was on the edge of not being fun with the heavy wind.

Where in western nh??

Meet a guy Saturday from Mass who also has a 470 that want to tease pics and ideas. He is going to call so we can hook up and spar with each other..

Just got an OLD 470 for nearly free - still assessing if it was a good deal or not ;). I am pretty good at finding information online but man there seems to be almost nothing helpful for this boat. It was purchased after siting out for years and most lines are rotted off. Can you point me to a manual or source of pictures that would explain what goes through each pulley or hole? Pulling my hair out trying to get this rigged.
Thanks

go to the Rigging and Tuning under the Resources area of this website for how to rig current boats. They have evolved a bit though

Hi everyone,

I'm glad to hear there are 1970's 470 owners in our area!

I've just purchased a 1973 Vanguard 470 that I'm sailing on Highland Lake in Washington, NH. I'm slowly figuring out how to set up the boat; I have a long way to go! I live in Acton MA - near Boston. My son is helping me with the boat, but neither of us have 420 or 470 experience. I'd love to "swap ideas" and maybe get some basic set up tips! The 470 is a LOT more complicated than boats I've sailed in the past!

With the onset of fall, my boat is out of the water for the season as of this past weekend, but I have a lot to do and learn to be ready for next summer! Looking forward to getting in touch with the local 470 community.

...Jeff
