Hey laserites,
have any of you heard about an event happening in September - "Bart's Bash" ?
The largest sailing race in the world !

The event has been conceived in remembrance of the U.K. Olympic sailor Andrew 'Bart' Simpson who tragically drowned in San Francisco Bay a year ago.

A sailing foundation has been set up in his name, here in the U.K., to encourage and support young sailors.

The event was initially hoped to gain interest from a few sailing clubs across the country but it's gone global....
Check out this participation map

You may not even yet be aware that your club is involved !
Your club may not yet be involved, if so, hassle the relevant people or perhaps take up the gauntlet yourself and register interest for your club.

Nomads ( club less sailors ) are welcome to join in at a participating venue near to them.
Even if one quarter of the projected sailors take part, we will be setting a new record.
Be a part of it.

I am Laser Class Captain at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club (Suffolk, UK) and I know that we are certainly taking part! I hope it will be a great event (both globally and locally) in honour of a fantastic sailor.

Guess which sailing/boating/yachting club has currently the most people signed up and where it is in the world?
Answer - Nyack Boat Club on Hudson River - USA !!!!
154 sailors signed up!

If you are going to a event on the 21st Sept, ask the host club to get signed up. One normal race can be made to count towards the Guinness record attempt with minimum effect. Go to www.bartsbash.co.uk for details.
