Fitness For Laser Sailing

So what do people consider the best way to stay fit for laser sailing? I think running and cycling but I've heard lots of different Ideas being thrown about!

Picking fights at the bar with all of those guys who laugh when you capsize. They usually don't like it when I tell them that a child could sail their boat and only real men sail Lasers. Depending on their size, I either run from them or causally ride my bike away.

Watch TV Upside-down
  • Thighs on a footstool
  • Toes under the sofa
  • Something heavy sitting on the sofa
  • And, hike out (lay back an don't touch the floor)

These have been outlawed in the US but you can build your own ....

there are a ton of excercises you can do, focus on core training excersises and use free weights whenever possible

one excersise that is good is to take a pair of free weights, stand straight up with the weights at your side, then extend your arm forward (keeping arms straight) and bring up to shoulder level, you want to go up quickly without rocking and down slowly and controlled, this helps with trimming, I usually do 3 sets.

you can do one leg jumps, then go to 2 leg frog hops, then while you rest do wall sits

I like to use road and mountain biking as a fun way to train outside of the gym, swimming is also good if you have access to warm pool,

Get strong through the proper lifting of weights (exercise selection and technique) and then apply it to Laser sailing via hard training on the water.

Doing exercises specifically for trimming is silly.

I always found the best way to get better at hiking for long periods was to...hike for long periods. I was never great on the hiking bench yet, oddly enough, my forte was heavy air sailing and grinding it out upwind.
