After a bit of a hiatus I have started posting again for Center of Effort. New posts include this most recent one from Clay Johnson entitled " Abra Cadabra: Five Tips for Getting Your Best Starts Ever." When you read the post you'll see where the magic comes in. And while your at the blog check out my latest post entitled "Downwind Dilemmas: How to Avoid the Dreaded Capsize to Windward." Because as Dick Tillman says, "Capsizing is slow."

I'd love to know what you want to hear about AND who you want to hear from. I promise, if you make the effort to give a suggestion I will make the effort to write about it. Now is a great time to get tips so when the weather improves (for those of us living with this winter cold- BRRRRR!) you'll be ready to sail your butt off!

Best Regards,
Coach K

I sailed yesterday in the Courageous Rhodes fleet. My skipper (my first time sailing with him) complained that although his boat speed was good and he was finishing in the top half of the fleet his starts weren't up to par. Fortunately he had recently read this post so we implemented several of the tips. We were able to "hide" behind other boats (it was an I flag day) but pull the trigger a couple of seconds before other boats and launch into clear lanes almost every race. We ended up finishing 4th for the day (25 boats).
