Hi,

Just had a great day on the water. Just had a few questions.
When I tack my mainsheet sometimes gets wrapped
around the stern's lip on the corner. Anyway to avoid this?
Also I seem to be taking too much time at the ramp (I have heard a comment).
What's the quickest way to rig? Raise my mast before going down
the ramp? Hoist my sail before going down the ramp?

Thanks

The traveler seems to "stand up" to keep the mainsheet away from "the corners". Is your traveler a standard size and design?

Is there a place in the shallows where you can rig your boat away from the ramp?

I rig my boat away from the ramp when it's still on the trailor. Space is tight where I usually launch the boat, so I paddle out away from the ramp and raise the sail on the water.

The ramp where I usually launch can be busy on weekends (mostly with fishing boats) and I follow a protocol that is similar to that of baseman.

Rig away from the ramp, but leave the sail down, rudder up and the board still in the cockpit. Get the boat in the water (push it off the trailer for me) and tie it up to the dock, out of the way so that others can launch. Put the car away, get back to the dock to raise the sail, get the board in, get the rudder down, and off I go... In other words, I 'use' the ramp for about five minutes.

Fortunately, there are docks on both sides of the ramp that I am describing, and the ramp is wide enough so that two boats can launch simultaneously. Thus, I have some options with respect to other boats, the wind, etc.

And yes, rigging a boat on the ramp when others are waiting is not considered good form.

Do you mean that the sheet gets caught when you jibe? Lasers are 'famous' for that.
When one tacks, one should be sheeted in and the sheet shouldn't get caught on a corner of the stern.

Thanks. Where I launch it is a 2 boat ramp.
However there isn't much space to tie up. I can definitely save
time be rigging before I go down the ramp.
